Passed away Friday, August 20, 2021. Loving husband of Barbara Wolff (nee Groll); dearest father of Shannon Melissa Wolff and Sarah Nicole Wolff; dear grandfather of Phoenix, Destiny Nevaeh; dear brother of James (Karan) Wolff; brother-in-law of Susan (Larry) Leipziger, Thomas Groll, Raymond (Gloria) Groll, Nancie (Gary) Melker, Dorothy (Skip) Scagliola, Steven (Gerardette) Groll and Janet Groll; uncle to many. Preceded in death by parents John and Irma Evelyn Wolff, brother-in-law David Groll and grandson Corey and granddaughter Desire’.
Enjoyed spending time with family and friends telling long stories, A special thank you for the extraordinaire care given to him from SSM St. Clare Hospital Doctors, Staff and facility during his battle with lung cancer. Also, special thank you for the excellent care provided him from nurses and aids from SSM Home Hospice.
Vietnam Veteran, Clayton fire fighter and driving cross country for multiple companies and a graduate of Bayless High School Class of 1962.
Services: Visitation Tuesday, September 7, 10 a.m. until service 12:00 noon at KUTIS AFFTON Chapel, 10151 Gravois. Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to a charity of choice.
Our heartfelt condolences to Barbara, Shannon, and Sarah and to grandkids. What a wonderful cousin. We had so much fun when we were kids growing up. We so miss Uncle Johnny and Aunt Evelyn. Thank you for your service in the Vietnam War and being a firefighter. Also thank you for the many miles you drove a truck to supply us with our necessities.
Our prayers are with Barb and the family. We cousins from the Roland and Billie Wolff family knew John as Butch, have many old pictures of him as baby and toddler. Our lives took us to different places, but we treasured the rare family visits in St. Louis with lots of enthusiasm and conversation from this warm and gentle man. Our thoughts, prayers and best wishes go to you, Barb and Jim, and your family and friends. Butch always had that great smile and was so happy to see you whenever you would meet. He just made you feel so good to be near and close to him and he was always so compassionate and with such a caring heart. Butch made this world a better place just by being John, by being Butch, and by being the friend, family member and cousin, we all love and always will. We miss all of our loved ones and friends so much and you’ve just got to know, that Butch just knows, that his friends and family who love him so much, will always love him so much and forever. Barb, my love and tears go out to you and your entire family for the loss of John. He certainly chose the right girl to be his wife and mother to his children. John will live in in the hearts of everyone who ever met him. He was a kind and gentle man who loved his family. I remember meeting him and seeing how much he loved you. And always will. I truly believe in the quote “Love Never Leaves, Wherever A Beautiful Soul Has Been.” May God hold you close and comfort you. Death is the beginning, not the end. All my love, forever.
I met John, in January 1994, beginning my first over the road driving position and we became fast friends. He was more like a big brother and helped me maneuver the ins and outs of the trade. We met at many crossroads as solo drivers, and later shared many miles and stories across America and Canada as a team. John was professional, always caring for others and met everyone with a cheerful hello. Farewell my old friend, God bless and we’ll meet again somewhere down the road. Ron and Jackie Hunt
