Max A. Waltrip, a St Louis resident, passed away on 2/ 7 / 21 at the age of 73. He was the beloved 45 – year husband of Christina; treasured sibling of Dorcas Blackburn, Sue McLean (deceased), Paula Wilber, Mark Waltrip, and Frank Price (step-brother); cherished son-in-law of Benny and Bob Norton; dearly loved father of Ross Waltrip (deceased) and esteemed grandfather to Jacob Waltrip and Adam Wilmes and all of their extended families. Max served his country from 1968-69, in the Army’s tank division. He received a BS in 77 from SLU and an MBA from SIU in 82. He worked for Mo Pac RR for 20 years and Volvo for 17. He was a very intelligent man with an uncanny wit. He loved to socialize & travel, whether at backyard fish fries, hiking, dirt biking, scuba diving, and watching football.
Visitation: Kutis Funeral Home, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road 63129, On Sat. Feb. 20th from 10 a.m. until service at 1 p.m. Donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans. Interment: Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery – immediate family only.
Max was a lifelong friend for around 50+ years. He was one of those people who really made a mark with their presence and lucky are they who have crossed his path on this planet. Always entertaining, quick with a joke, a smile and a hug, he was my treasured friend. He could carry a conversation about anything and often surprised me how well read he was. Max was the type of person who would be there if you needed help, no matter what time of day or what you needed. It gives me some comfort, although I am selfishly grieving, wishing I had one more chance to have a few beers and laughs with my friend, to know he is having a great time now with his son, Ross, who left us way too early. Max is whole now, his heart can heal now that he has his son again. I will really miss you as will so many of us. Thanks for being a bright light in my life here with your friendship. Love you Max, and hope to see your smile again when its’s my time to cross over.

My heartfelt condolences for the loss of Max who truly was your treasure as anyone who was ever around would agree. The wit was quick as was a helping hand with those fortunate enough to know him. To hunt and socialize with him was always a treat as he was never short on giggles and pranks. Praying he slid into heaven telling God “What a ride”!

I met Max the first day I worked at Volvo we instantly became friends Max became a father to me which is why I always called him pops Max and Christie were my second parents and it broke my heart when I heard Max died he will always be forever loved I love you pops
