It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of James F. Tyra, passed away suddenly on February 1, 2022 after a brief battle with cancer. Beloved husband of 50 years to Deborah (Danner), loving father of Christine Poehling and Rebecca Branson, father-in-law of Dennis Poehling, grandfather of Scout, Gus, Paulina and Lydia.
Brother of Bob (Mary Ann), Janet (Art Bunch), John, Patricia (deceased), David (deceased), Steven (deceased), Michael (deceased), Marion (deceased). Son of Robert and Dorothy (deceased). Brother-in-law, cousin, and great friend to many.
Jim led a life of service as a US Marine in Vietnam, 1st Sergeant in US Army, Police Officer, Firefighter, EMT and NGA Security Lieutenant. James doted on his daughters and grandchildren, taking them on trips around the country, from camping to fishing, to Fort Leonard Wood, Easter egg hunts, playing tricks on holidays, teaching them poker, learning to drive and shooting a BB gun. We made a lifetime of memories and he will be deeply missed, cherished always and forever in our hearts.
Military Burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery on Thursday, February 17 at 2pm. Please meet at upper Sylvan Springs parking lot across from cemetery main entrance by 1:45pm to join procession. There will be a gathering afterward at Firehouse Grill on Lemay Ferry Rd.
Jim supported Wounded Warriors and BackStoppers. For those inclined to donate, either organization would be greatly appreciated.

I went to grade school with Jim and siblings in the 69’s and early 60’s. They lived across the street from Carondelet Church and I walked past his home on Sundays. Sounds like he had a good life. RIP, Jim.

We hold sweet memories as we were neighbors when our girls were young in High Ridge! So sorry to hear of this loss of such a devoted man in all aspects of his life! Truly sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. There are many memories of our time in Des Peres. He was a great guy. We always say we’re going to get together and talk but we how we never do.
