Beloved husband of the late Joan Statzel (nee Runge); loving father of Greg (Karen) Gysbers and Steve (Talina) Statzel; dear grandfather of Michael, Michelle, Kurt, Ashley, Erika and Madison; dear great-grandfather of Audrey and Avery
Mr. Statzel served in the Missouri State Highway Patrol for over 25 years, was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and a US Army Korean War Veteran.
Services: Funeral from KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL 10151 Gravois Thursday May 20, 11:30 AM. Interment Our Redeemer Cemetery. Memorials to American Diabetes Association appreciated.

Jeff, Maggie, Rowan & I are so sorry to hear about Charlie. He meant the world to our family & I think I can speak for Jeff by saying he was the definition of a real man. He commanded respect just by being quiet & so very cool. I’ll never forget Jeff’s story from childhood about how he had been whacking at trees & never knew fear or shame like when he realized he’d have to admit it to Charlie. He said he kicked every rock he saw along that walk of shame to prolong his confession. Charlie just stoically heard him out & Jeff knew he’d never do it again to avoid that conversation & Charlie’s disappointed gaze. We will miss him terribly but know he’s finally reunited with Joan & Max. Makes me happy to think Paul is there too. Our thoughts & prayers are with you all. We love you.
Our hearts are with Mr. Statzel’s family and friends. It was an honor to care for him.- Unity Hospice
