Jim was the devoted husband for 60 years of Esther Rodriguez Payne who preceded him in death on February 17, 2008. He provided unending love and strength to his daughters and son-in-laws Brenda (John) Wilken and Janice (Steve) Wunderlich; loving, generous and proud grandfather of 4 grandsons Michael and Eric Wilken, Paul (Laura) and Matthew Wunderlich; 4 great-grand children Bennett and Dawsyn Wilken, Alexis and Mila Wunderlich; brother of Wanda (Fitz) Fitzgerald; dear uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Jim lived a life of service to others and our country while serving in the U.S. Navy and Metropolitan St. Louis Police Dept. for 30 years.
SERVICES: Visitation Tuesday, May 25, 2021 10:30 am until service time 12:30 pm at Kutis AFFTON Chapel 10151 Gravois (St. Louis). Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Backstoppers.
Uncle Jim was a man full of life. Always quick to share the many adventures of his life as a policeman keeping us laughing. He and Aunt Esther were always willing to help – invite them to dinner and they just might shave the doors to make them fit after new carpet was laid. They were always fun and they are now together again. RIP Uncle Jim.
What a wonderful sweet soul . Always smiling when I came to see him. Loved my beans and ham. Came for a big country breakfast so many times with his brother Roy
.never saw him mad at anybody..;his daughters were amazing took care of his every need for five years. Never complained always took him everywhere. He will really be missed.I love you Jim and I know Esther is doing cartwheels you are now with her.
Uncle Jim had such a huge impact on my life. He taught me unconditional love, and the importance of family. It was fun to watch him help anyone on home projects. His laugh was contagious and his humor always kept me smiling. He and Aunt Esther loved playing practical jokes and they taught me the importance of an afternoon nap. I will miss preparing meals for him and his sweet smile. I love him so much and know he is having a big reunion in heaven.
