Bob passed peacefully in his sleep on October 5, 2022 at the age of 92.

Bob was born July 22, 1930 to August and Mary (Clancy) Neubert of St Louis. Bob grew up in the Tower Grove South neighborhood and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1948. After graduation he hitch-hiked with friends to the Pacific Northwest. Once the temporary jobs and money played out, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, an experience that would influence the rest of his life.

Bob served in the Korean War and survived the Chosin Reservoir Battle of 1950. His image appears in a photograph that is found in many books and periodicals about the campaign. He was a proud member of the Chosin Few Organization. Marine Corps service took him to San Francisco, where he met Thelma “Terrie” Kaltenbach. They married in 1952 and soon started a family.

Bob followed his father into the plumbing trade, and won a national apprenticeship contest in 1957. In 1970 he founded R.J. Neubert & Associates, a plumbing, mechanical & fire sprinkler contracting firm, which he operated for 45 years.

Bob loved adventures and saw no limits. He loved to sail the Shark, a competitive sailboat, on the Mississippi river and at Lake Carlyle, Illinois. Bob earned his pilot’s license and loved to fly his family to breakfast and deliver plumbing materials to job sites across the region. While losing his vision he developed Accu-rate Fire Sprinkler Estimating software. He loved to invent, ride his bicycle, swim in the Senior Olympics, dance and sing the Marine Hymn. He was always working on ideas to the end.

Bob was preceded in death by Terrie, his wife of 57 years, and his brothers August “Bill” Neubert and the Ralph (Patricia) Neubert. He is survived by his loving children: Mary (Dennis) Smith, Mark (Barbara) Neubert, and Jere (the late Debbie) Neubert; grandchildren: Amy (Nick) Eckstein, Diana (Mark) Dury, Justin (Brinkley) Smith, Tim Neubert, Rachel Neubert and Katie (Andi Hutterer) Neubert; and great grandchildren: Steve and Haley Dury.

Memorial mass will be celebrated at Noon, October 25 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Fenton, Missouri. Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

A special thank you to his many caregivers and companions, including wonderful staff at Friendship Village South Skilled Nursing Center
