Menner, Father Robert J. St. Louis Archdiocesan Priest of 52 years passed away Friday, April 24, 2020.
Loving son of the late Adolph and Louise (Toenjes) Menner; loving brother of Betty (Bill) Boland, Mary Lee (Dave) Dunmire, Carol (Pat) McMahon and the late Adolph Jr. (Doris) Menner; loving uncle of LuAnn (Tom) Noelke, Tom (Shauna), John (Susan), Jim (Sharon) and Matt Menner, Terry (Joan) Boland, Kris (Tom) Kraft, Doug (Maureen) Boland, David (Suzanne) and Derek (Kathy) Dunmire, Carrie (Tim) Probst and the late Tim Boland and many more family and friends.
Father Bob spread PEACE, LOVE, AND HAPPINESS everywhere he went. He will be remembered by all for his friendship, generosity, listening skills and great sermons. He was deeply committed to his missionary work in Bolivia, but when health reasons brought him back home, he continued to serve the many parishes of the St. Louis Diocese with that same love and devotion. Services: There will be a private interment for family only. A celebration of Father Robert’s life will be announced at a later date. Querido Padre y amigo Roberto, no ha sido fácil como familia, saber de tú partida en estas sircunstancias, fue muy sorpresiva y nos cuesta todavia creerlo, hiciste tanto bien a los que te conocimos tu bondad y alegria eran tu sello, nunca te olvidaremos querido Roberto, se que ya estas en el regazo del Padre Celestial. Gracias por tanto bien que nos hiciste, te llevaremos en nuestro corazon descansa en paz querido amigo Roberto.

I first met Father Bob in 1969 at Our Lady of Mercy. My school, St. Blaise in Maryland Heights, “borrowed” Our Lady of Mercy’s school for one year due to overcrowding. I served my very first Mass with Father Bob. He was always a very comforting presence. I did see him a few times in the ensuing years, most notably at Our Lady of Mercy’s closing Mass and dinner in 2005. Well done, good and faithful priest of Our Lord. May your family be consoled and always be assured of my prayers.
Blessings and condolences to the Menner family. He was an integral part of our lives at O.L.M. from 1969 to 1973 and loved by all. We were blessed to be able to stay in touch with him over his many years of service as a priest. He shared our joys in family weddings and shared his love and guidance with the passing our parents in later years. I was lucky enough to see him at the 50th anniversary celebration of his ordination.
As always he we joyful and loving. He was and still is a true instrument of Gods Love and Peace. God bless you my friend.

My family knew him since I was six years old and he was at Our Lady of Mercy. He would have this huge sketch pad on the alter and would draw cartoons of Snoopy on his dog house while he told a story. In the middle of mass! He was great.
My mom has kept in contact with him after all of our moves from location to location and even got all of us together to eat lunch a few years ago at a place that he liked in St. Charles. He was still hilarious and commented that he did not trust vegetables at all so he would not touch the ones on his plate.
Today has felt really different since I just found out about Robert’s passing. I know that we all have to die at some time and I know that we all have to experience the deaths of others that we love. There are instances though when a death feels more like something in the Earth cracked open or actually an important door just slammed shut. The day that Fred Rogers died felt the same way to me.
If anyone saved their masks of “Young Father Bob” that his sister made for one of his birthdays, maybe put one on your face and run around the yard and do something that would make him laugh if he could see it right now.
Wow, I do not think I can top what my son just wrote. Both of my sons(Tory & Eric) were truly attracted to Father Bobs sense of humor and ability to draw children to listen to him. About the time we moved from Our Lady of Mercy parish to Warrenton,Mo ,he went to So. America and we became pen pals and on occasion met for lunch when he would come “home”. My husband Alan & I met him at the Loop for lunch this past November and had such a fun time. We had no idea it would be the last hug we would every get from him. He leaves such a hole in my heart as he was such a great friend,even the prank phone calls he gave will be missed. He loved his family and spoke of them often and we offer condolences to all. Rest in Peace dear friend.
What a gem! One of a kind! I want you to know that Fr. Bob spoiled me immensely when I traveled to Bolivia a few years ago. First he got me right in to see a physician at the parish clinic and then he allowed me to accompany him to the altiplano where he ministered to the people in the various pueblos and they in turn welcomed him into their lives with open arms. He was truly beloved.
You have my heartfelt sympathy. Be assured of my continued prayers.
