passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022, at the age of 85. At a young age, Tom developed a love for fishing, an activity he enjoyed his entire life, taking him from the Missouri streams to the Patagonian rivers. In recent years, he enjoyed and looked forward to his “buddy” fishing trips out West. As a teenager, Tom’s dream was to become a hobo and ride the rails; alas, he went into the army and then law school, where he discovered his lifelong love of the law. However, his wanderlust never left him; he traveled the world with his late wife, Lois, and children, visiting all seven continents and over 100 countries. When not traveling, he loved to read books with maps, cook fine food, and drink fine wine.
He is survived by his daughters, Nancy, Sandy, Patti (John) and Susan, as well as 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to any student scholarship fund at Christian Brothers College High School or Washington University School of Law.

Services: Funeral from Kutis Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois, Friday, July 15, 9:30 a.m. to Annunciation Catholic Church for 10 a.m. Mass. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation Thursday 4-8 p.m.
TEL and HAH – started at Stolar in 1961 and remained to the end – dear friends and true partners in all we did. Fondest travel memory is when Judy and I had lunch with Tom and Lois at the grand restaurant on the palace grounds at Versailles – 3+ hours of fine wines and 4 carts of various cheeses for desert. And craziest travel memory is when we four arrived for an ALAS meeting in Puerto Rico to find we were met by a chauffeured limo that took us to a luxurious three story villa with private pool and on-site 24 hour butler and maid service – for our entire stay. Turns out I had inadvertently made a rather major error when booking. We loved it and PS, we picked up the tab personally, not the firm.
TEL – a life well-lived in every aspect!
His memory will always be a blessing for me.

I am deeply saddened to here of his passing. All is I can say is that I loved your Dad and I always looked forward to speaking to him. He was a great friend too not only my family but to anyone who he came in contact with. He always had great stories of his exploits and fishing trips he went on.
I will close by saying he and his old fishing buddy can now finally get together after all these years and hopefully find a place where the trout are taking flies!

Hi, I’m Charles, younger brother to Tom. These are a few things I remember about growing up in the same household with him. First of all he was always doing things to better himself. While all the other kids in the neighborhood were outside playing ball, Tom would be reading a book of some sort. I remember him trying to convince all the other kids to stay in and read something. And while he read, he kept a notebook where he would write any word he didn’t know so he could look it up in a dictionary and he would remember what it meant. I feel that his thinking about being a hobo was all about experiencing some of the adventures that he read about. He was always aspiring to better himself. I remember that he was very disappointed when he received the two B grades in high school, all the rest were A’s. As we grew older we drifted somewhat apart partly because I moved to the West coast and we rarely saw each other. But he came to visit us one time. I had a boat docked in the Santa Cruz harbor. My wife and I took him out on the Ocean where he and Lois both caught some very nice Chinook salmon.
He will be missed!!!!
Tom was an avid lover and supporter of Greek archaeology, having participated with Susan in several excavation seasons of the Iklaina dig. Always with a playful smile on his face, a charming disposition, and fascinating stories about his travel adventures, he was a beloved member of our team, and a wonderful friend. Tom, all of us will miss you dearly.
Tom served Incarnate Word Foundation both on the Finance Committee and on the Board. I valued his expertise, but even more his affability and sense of humor. I have missed seeing him since leaving St. Louis, but keep his memory in my heart. May he enjoy new life in God’s country.
I was on the Board at CBC with Tom. I will always value his intelligence, ability to simplify complex issues, and his even temperament combined with a great sense of humor. He provided exactly the type of leadership we needed on our Board, and his contributions will be forever remembered and appreciated. My condolances to Tom’s family. Your dad was a wonderful person and will be missed.
