I am so sorry to hear this sad news! I loved Barb and will always remember how much fun we had together listening to the Ralph Butler Band! What a kind hearted wonderful friend she was! She will be missed dearly!
I am so sad to hear about Barb’s passing. As an official member of the Women of the Band club (of which I am a member too), it was always a joy to hang out with Barb while listening to the music. She never failed to entertain us as well! She was devoted to Gerry, her boys, and her grandchildren and was particularly happy to have a daughter-in-law and granddaughter to dote on. Her face lit up whenever she spoke about her family. The kind and respectful nature of her children is her legacy of which she was rightfully so very proud. The loss that they have experienced is what saddens me most deeply. She was the center of their family and my heart goes out to Gerry, Adam, Ben, Joe, Jessica and her grandchildren. She loved you all so much. And that is some thing that you will carry with you always.
Barb has always been a kind and gentle lady to me. So sorry for your loss. She will be missed and forever loved.

I am so sorry for your loss. Barb was the most wonderful, giving person, who helped everyone she interacted with at Wash U. I owe her so much and have so many fond memories of the times she gave me practical and moral support, her glowing pride about your kids and grandkids, and the lovely times we had at Erin’s wedding and Barb’s retirement party. My heart is broken for you, and I just feel lucky to have known Barb. She set an example of humanity that the rest of us can only try to imitate.

I knew Barb from her work at the Humanities Center. She had a wicked sense of humor and was always so warm and welcoming. I will miss her. I am so sorry for your family’s loss. May her memory be a blessing to all of you.
I worked with Barb for several years at the Wash U Center for the Humanities, and I have been friends with her ever since. I always called her the beating heart of the Center. She was so incredibly friendly and kind to every single person who visited the Center, and she had a great sense of humor and a jolly laugh. She was one of the most loving people I have ever encountered. Barb loved her entire family fiercely, and I felt I knew even those family members whom I haven’t met. My deepest condolences to Gerry, Ben, Joe, Jessica, Adam, the grandbabies she loved so much, and the entire extended family.
When I think of Barb, I think of a life well lived. I have always admired her, and I will miss her greatly.
I also knew Barb at the Center for the Humanities and really loved her warmth and her kindness, and her ready smile, even in the midst of her busy work schedule. I am deeply saddened by her death and will miss her! Condolences to her family and to all those who are grieving this terrible loss.

The whole Cotorceanu family sends their love and deepest sympathy. Barb became a mother to Adam and welcomed him into the family when I was unavailable. Her warmth and hospitality in his time of need was a comfort to me beyond measure. We are stunned and shocked at her passing and grieve this beautiful soul. I know she will be deeply missed. Her kindness will live on in our hearts.
I am so sorry for your loss and stunned by this sad news. Nonetheless, I’ll try to find words (however inadequate) to describe what a wonderful colleague Barb was to me and everyone who came in to the Center for the Humanities. Barb was warmth and light and life to all. She cared about us, regularly asking after our spouses and our children, and remembering key details about our lives. She kept us grounded in the world by reminding us that we were full human beings whose non-academic lives were important to recognize, too. But she also valued the work that we did at the Center, asking just as many informed questions about our research, and remembering key details about it, too. I will miss her terribly because she mirrored back to us what it means to be a person in the round–one for whom family and friendship and laughter and learning are all important aspects of being alive. And, wow, did she adore her grandchildren! I take solace in knowing that her legacy continues in them.
I will always remember Barb as the one who knew everything about WashU, how to organize this or that, how to find this or that, and how to remain cheerful even during the most challenging moments. For years, she kept the Center for Humanities running, we all knew it. It was always a treat to visit her, whether I needed to talk shop with her or just because. She delighted in seeing our babies, and I know she loved the babies (and not so tiny children) of her family more than anything. My sincere condolences to all family members and friends who are grieving this loss.

You couldn’t be in a bad mood if you bumped into Barb. She always asked me about my son and we would chat about her grandchildren who she loved so much. She will be very much missed.

Sending my condolences to the family. I was heartbroken to hear of Barb’s passing. Many of us at WashU felt at home there in no small part because of her. I miss our regular lunches, where we would be in community. We would laugh and cry together. She came to my graduation and that of other students. When I got my first job after school, I was sad to leave WashU because I knew how much I would miss the home that Barb made for many of us there. I will always remember her laughter and her caring nature. I am so proud and grateful to have met her.
She was such a kind and strong woman, a rare combination in today’s world. She set example by her way of living and how she treated others. I met Barb during my research visit as an international Fellow at the Center for the Humanities. I was overwhelmed by her warmth and kindness. A generous soul, Barb always had something positive to say. Although several years have passed since we met, I still have very fond memories of meeting her and her husband Gerry.
