Long-term, research librarian , at Missouri Historical Society, Stephanie Klein, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at the age of 78. Graduate of Fontbonne University in 1964, with master’s degree in library science from Simmons in Boston. Mrs. Klein had a 23 year career at the Jefferson Memorial History Museum. Prior to this she had been at Lindenwood University, before spending time with the Columbus Public Library, Columbus, Ohio. A native of Alton, Illinois, she attended Marquette High School in Alton. After returning to St. Louis, she worked at the Downtown Branch of St. Louis Public Library, before moving on to the History Museum. She is survived by her husband and sister. Kutis Affton Service
So sorry to hear about Stephanie’s passing. I worked with Stephanie at MHS and remember her as a generous and caring colleague.

God bless Stephanie as she moves on to Our Lord’s kingdom. It is a great blessing to die with God’s holy orders administered prior to your death. May the Lord be with Greg as he moves on as a widower. I know that too well.
Both Mary Jane and I feel comfort in knowing that you were fortified with the Last Sacrament and had continuous prayers from us, Greg, and those who had the gift of knowing you. As Ann stated in her note honoring you – you brought joy to our family. Rest in Peace in the arms of the Lord!
Stephanie Klein came to the Missouri Historical Society with considerable cataloging experience and helped launch the library into the computer age. She was known for her high standards, appreciation of MHS’ historic collections, and her desire to help researchers locate materials more easily through good cataloging. She also planned the layout of the library stacks in the new building and served as President of the St. Louis Regional Library Network. Her co-workers remember her fondness of cats, gadgets, and mystery novels. She was almost the first person I met in St. Louis and she kindly gave me (a new transplant) a lovely guidebook to help me learn more about my adopted city. I have it to this day. Many years of memories with a co-worker who faithfully served MHS.
