Talmadge Dwight Johnson passed away on May 13, 2021 at the age of 90. He was born to Talmadge and Gertha Johnson on February 8, 1931. He married Freda Naomi Jones on June 12, 1954. He is survived by his 6 children (Annette, Denise, Stephen, Sandra, Jeffrey, and David); his son-in-law (Chuck); his 3 daughters-in-law (Sue, Stacy, and Michelle); his 14 grandchildren (Matt, Angie, Cody, Debbie, Josh, Sami, Chris, Jeremiah, Kelsie, Mason, Kristen, Cathy, Savanah, and Alexander) and their spouses; his 11 great-grandchildren (Kasen, Evie, Noah, Zac, Ellie, Juliana, John, Landon, Grace, Jameson, and Waverly); and 4 of his siblings (Buel, Brenda, Donavee, and Judy). He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years (Freda), his son-in-law (Tim), and 3 of his brothers (Ralph, Alvie, and Buren). Dwight was a devoted Christian, husband, and father who served the Lord by serving others. He is sorely missed by the many who loved him dearly.
Visitation at Canaan Baptist Church 5409 Baumgartner Road St. Louis, MO 63129 on Monday May 17, from 4-8PM. Funeral service at Canaan Baptist on Tuesday at 10AM. Interment JB National Cemetery. Dear family of Dwight, I send my sympathy to each of you. I am sure you are overcome with people who love you. I cannot be there, my sister is in hospital in Poplar Bluff and I am here with her. Please, all of you, know I am praying for each of you, asking God to comfort your hearts, not just today and tomorrow but the weeks, months and years ahead. Grief is not easy! I love you all.
What a great and humble man Dwight was. He was well loved by the St Louis MO Patriot Guard Riders and the Greater St Louis Area Honor Flight folks. We all will miss his physical presence greatly, but know he will be with us in spirit. May God comfort all of his huge family, but please be assured God has given Dwight a special place in heaven. I imagine Dwight will continue honoring all our veterans in the heavens and watch over those who remain on this earth. Such a wonderful human being; we certainly need more like Dwight. Thought about and prayed for each of you today. It is a heart wrenching experience, as you well know, losing those you dearly love. As Christians we will rejoice in Heaven together.

I will never forget Dwight’s contagious smile. He would always answer the phone “Hello my friend “. He was always eager to help with anything. He amazed me all he could continue to do in his elderly years. I will pray that God gives you strength and peace in the upcoming days. They will not be easy. Loved this brother of mine!! When I had a stroke on January 2nd, 2020 he called regularly to check on me. When I would call him he always answered ” Hi, Precious ” sure am missing him! God bless and comfort the precious children left behind, may God give you strength and peace! You all are so loved!!
Dwight was one of the honored guests on my bus for the 2019 VetsRoll trip. It was very interesting and informative to hear him speak of his military experiences. He was also a very delightful and upbeat person to be around. It was my honor to have known him for those 4 short days. Please accept my condolences on behalf of the entire VetsRoll.org family.
