David passed unexpectedly on December 28th, 2022. He was 35 years old. In his 35 years, he did more in that time than most people do in a lifetime. As a child he enjoyed skateboarding and playing hockey. His adult life sent him on a path that left lasting impressions on a lot of people.
That path for David started when he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He proudly served two tours in Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne. While in the 101st, David attended sniper school at Fort Benning, GA. When he left the military he used the skills he acquired there to push his civilian career forward. He worked with the State Department at the Consulate in Iraq, Embassy in Israel, and sniper instructor in Saudi Arabia.
Little did he know how much that work in Saudi Arabia would change his life in an amazing way. It really is something out of a Hallmark movie because that is where he met his wife Mary. Who would ever think a nurse from the Philippines and a sniper from America would meet in Saudi Arabia.They married on November 27, 2019.
Along with his wife Mary and daughter Yani. David is survived by his mother and father Joe & Roberta Gosney, brother Eli, sister in-law Karen, and his crazy yet loveable dog Charlie.
Even though David is no longer with us his life will continue to influence our lives. He was truly an honorable man and will never be forgotten.
Services: A memorial gathering will be held at KUTIS SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd, St. Louis, Mo 63129 on Tuesday, January 10, from 10:30 a.m. until time of service 12:30 p.m. Inurnment Jefferson Barracks National cemetery with full military honors. After JB there will be a celebration of life from 2:15 p.m.-5 p.m. at the VFWPOST 2593, address is 2301 church road, Arnold MO 63010.

I am truly sorry for the loss of David. This one hits me hard because I spent quite some time with him on deployment. He was the positive person in the negative situation every time , even if we knew his face wasn’t happy he always had this charisma about him. His hard work and his dedication to doing things correctly was always the priority. I had never been out of my home state before the army, after our deployment he invited me to check out his home state for a weekend. That visit alone was one of the best experiences of my life. David, I know you can’t hear me at this moment but, I would like to thank you for everything you had taught me in the army, thank you for helping me study for all those army schools but, truthfully thank you for being a good person all those times. You always will be remembered.

So sorry for your loss. I never met David but Joe would always talk about his two sons. It sounds like David had an amazing life in his short life. May all your memories give you comfort. Prayers to all of you at this time.
David was one the funniest, most randomly creative person I knew in junior high. I admired his personality and his humor. Definitely a person that I felt like I could truly relate to. He stood out from everyone. David was unlike anybody I knew.
I’ll never forget the first time staying the night at his parents house. My mom had to talk to his Roberta before feeling comfortable with me staying at a new friends house.
Anyways, his parents always had the best snacks. My Mom never bought much snacks so that first night was incredible for me.
David and I stayed up late that night talking to random people on yahoo chat via the microphone for hours on in. If you know David you’d know he was pulling everyone’s leg in the chat and getting people riled up.
David created the username chickentaco2002, and I thought it was the funniest username ever.
This is the perfect example of the randomness I mentioned above.
It breaks my heart that his life path ended this way. No one could have ever anticipated this. Life is truly unpredictable.

David was a great man with a beautiful spirit. When we were deployed together he always kept high spirits, and his sarcasm kept me in tears. You are loved and missed deeply. We love you brother.

David was one of my best friends I had during my 4+ years in the army, we were in the same squad along with one or two of the guys that have commented here and his passing is devastating to conceive. I can’t say this enough but he might have been the most fascinating and as you have heard above, hilarious brother I served with. Fascinating because he would be a goofball making the platoon laugh but then you would see him as one of the only soldiers not complaining, squared away, and leading others especially me and Ghost 2 by example. I told David’s brother when I spoke to him that I want to be a part of all your lives out of my love for him, respect to him and his life, and to serve as a continuation of my relationship with him even after he is gone. Mary, I’ve never met you but heard about you through David but I am so sorry for what you had to go through here, myself, the platoon, and the 2-506 are here for you if you need any information/help with anything as I feel eager to help in anyway I can.
To David’s Mother and Father the same goes for you but especially to assist with the pursuit of justice against the systems that failed him, because they absolutely did.
I plan on visiting St. Louis this year in lieu of my absence from the funeral along with another that can’t make it which lives near me here in Arizona.
