Fortner, Dorothy Lee (nee: Boardman) Wednesday, August 19, 2020. Devoted wife of the late Fred T. Fortner. Beloved mother of Ronald (Sabine) Fortner, Linda (Joe) Moore, Kenneth (Kay) Fortner, Nancy (Jeff) Miles, Peggy (Dennis Phinney) Fortner, David (Terri) Fortner, Carol (Steve) Myers, Judy Kay Fortner, Lisa (Gregory) Roy and the late Michael (survived Leanne Bales) Fortner, Sue (survived Mark) Cornwell. Dear grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister in law, aunt, cousin and friend.
Preceded in death by grandchildren Vickie Lynn Brennan, Aaron Thomas Miles, Madeline Lynne Fortner and great grandchild Bella Houston.
Dorothy, affectionately known as Dot, married Fred on July 10, 1943. They were married for 57 years and raised 11 children. She was blessed with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dot was a homemaker and an avid dog lover. She enjoyed working in her yard, watching her ‘stories’, and playing cards and backgammon. She loved going on long drives to enjoy the fall colors. She was loving, by nature, and attracted the admiration of all who met her. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed the holidays when all of her family were together. She was a wonderful woman and will be loved and missed by so many.
Revelation 21:4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.
Due to COVID-19 there will be a private visitation and service for the immediate family at Kutis South County Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to Stray Rescue of Saint Louis 2320 Pine St. Saint Louis, MO 63103-2219

I am lucky to have met your Mother. She was a very wondeful woman. Our condolences to the Fortner family.
So many memories of Uncle Fred, Aunt Dot, and my “kissin’ cousins” … we grew up through happy times all kin to Mom Jennie and PaPa Fortner. We have laughed at our Dad’s stories (each one had at least an element of truth,) danced at weddings, showered new babies, and once again we grieve together with another aching loss. So many years, blessed to know we share love. May God’s peace that passes understanding cover our family.
It has been my pleasure to have known your mother. She was always so friendly and kind to me when I would spend time at your house when Peggy and I were teenagers. She had a happy and loving heart. Love and prayers to you all

I feel honored to have crossed paths with this beautiful soul. She was like a grandmother to me during some of my younger years. I remember playing many games of backgammon with her. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Fortner family during this time. Rest in Peace Dot.

Dot, you touched so many lives with your kindness, humor, and love of so many people. You were the ideal of what a mother should be. You will be missed and remembered by all who knew you.
Mely and I wish to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to all of you. She lived a full and productive life. Aunt Dot was always pleasant, cheerful and saw the best in all of us. She will be missed. May her memory be eternal.
Such sad news, Dot was our neighbor for 20 years. We became close, almost like family. She was always so welcoming, along with Judy and Lisa back in those days. My kids grew up with Judy’s kids and were at the Fortner house all the time! We have SO many great memories of holidays like 4th of July and Halloween and just of hot summer days watching the kids on suicide missions on their big wheels flying down Dot’s street!! She embraced my kids like her own and would also kick them out of the house too, just like I did daily…I have So many funny stories and wonderful memories of Dot. She was really a Blessing to all her knew her, she raised her children to be caring and respectful people. I’m sad that the wake is private, although I do understand, I am sending all my families love and prayers for Dot and the entire Fortner family today.

It’s a sad sad event to lose your Mother. Dot very much was just like my Mother . All the good characteristics of a lovely lady. She always had the most warm cordial smile and I’m sure had no enemies.
I really appreciate the opportunity to have had the pleasure of working with Sue and meeting Dot.
She lived a good life and was blessed with a great family. God bless the Fortner family and may Dorothy rest in peace.
