(nee Schall) 93, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021. Beloved wife of the late Melford G. Corner; dearest mother of Joan (Michael) Walter, Gary Corner and the late James (survived by Sandy) Corner; dear grandma of M. Chris (Meagan) Walter, Nicole (Brandon) Brooks, Hannah (fiance Daniel Tolliver) Corner, Ellie Corner, Jennifer (William) Molsbee and Daniel (Maggie) Corner; great-grandma of 9; our dear aunt, cousin and friend of many.
Virginia touched many lives, she was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
Funeral Friday, May 21, 10:30 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, 8343 Gravois Rd. (St. Louis). Interment Sunset Cemetery. Growing up two doors down, she will forever be someone I remember fondly when I think of my childhood. She always had a smile and a wave no matter what day it was. My heart goes out to the Corner family – what a beautifuly lady inside and out. She was so loved.
I coached my five kids’ baseball and softball teams for 17 years at AAA, and I eventually served as the AAA president for seven years after being nominated by Virginia. Virginia’s long time presence, dedication and work behind the scenes for the kids playing baseball and hockey at Affton was inspiring and critical to the ongoing success of the program. It seemed like every single time I was there for one of my kids’ games, Virginia was there, working, doing whatever was needed to keep everything going. And she was there during the floods, the registrations, the tournaments. She was always there behind the scenes, helping the program succeed and creating lifetime memories and experiences for the kids and their families. I don’t know anyone who made more of a selfless and seemingly endless personal contribution over the years to the Association and to Affton’s kids and families. We have lost a superstar, but her legacy will live on forever.
