Born: July 24, 1926; passed away Tuesday September 14, 2021 at age 95.
Survived by wife Elizabeth. Born to Martin John Cobb and Linda L. (Owens) Cobb.
He was the 2nd of three sons, Alvin and Danzel Cobb; both preceded him in death.
He lived in Dora, MO on family farms and enlisted in the Army at age 18, in 1944.
He trained at Ft. Leonardwood and Camp Robinson, AR., before being deployed to Europe the same year, Nov. 1944. He fought in France and Germany during WWII in the 102nd infantry until the Germans surrendered on May 7, 1945.
He was then trained to go to the Pacific arena, after helping to liberate concentration camps and POW camps in Europe. When the Pacific campaign abruptly ended, he was then assigned to the 1st Infantry Division in Nuremberg, Germany where he was selected as a guard, in Nov. 1945, to the Palace of Justice in the Nuremberg Trials.
He was released from the army in 1947 and returned home to Dora, MO. Here me met and married Ethelene Freeman and moved to St. Louis, MO. he worked for Mississippi Valley Steel his whole working career.
He is survived by his children; Roger (Linda) Cobb, Vivian (Michael) Fleming and Marilynn (Bruce) Eason; along with seven grandchildren: Kelly, Amie, Jason, Jeff, Ryan, Christy and Katie; 17 great-grandchildren, and cousins, nieces and nephews.
Also, survived by his wife of 36 years Elizabeth Cobb, and six children: Randy, Janet, Karen, Sharon, William and Brenda; and their children and grandchildren.
Services: Visitation at KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL 1051 Gravois, Monday September 20, 10 AM until services at 12 Noon. Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice St. Louis.
Betty,Roger,Vivian and Marilynn Sorry to hear about Windell. He lived a very long life. Not many of us will ever make it to 95. I’ll always remember the good times we had playing cards years ago. He always enjoyed a good game. I’m sorry I won’t be able to make it to the funeral but my thoughts will be with you all. If any of you are ever around Springfield come see us. Love Sam & Myla Owen

My father, Lester Cobb, was Windell’s cousin. Like Windell, Lester grew up in Dora in southern Missouri. I know from my family’s visits to Dora when I was a child that life in Dora was very tough. Even in the ’60s, Lester’s boyhood home had no electricity, running water or indoor plumbing. They got water from a well and tied a rope to perishables and kept them in a nearby stream. Like Windell, Lester served in WWII in Europe. Windell and I talked some years ago about getting together for golf, but unfortunately it never happened. My brothers Jim and Lew and I send our condolences to Windell’s family.
We are so sorry to hear of Windell’s passing. I have thought about Windell many times these past few years. I enjoyed immensely meeting and speaking at length with him at home a couple years ago as he shared his amazing life experiences. I especially enjoyed escorting him to meet and share stories with the ex-military instructors at Asymmetric Solutions in Farmington. I think he felt right at home among the younger veterans and really enjoyed the day.

I am a random stranger Who stumbled upon this on the Internet. Mr.Cobbs life is deeply moving and you should all be very proud to have known and or been related to him. Hearing of a life so great as is this one really makes you reflect on all the things we take for granite. God bless Mr. Wendell Cobb and all of those who fought in the last great and just war. They are the few people left on this planet that can say they truly changed history for the better, every single one of them. My condolences to the whole family
