Beloved son of the late Salvatore and Louise Carcagno; loving brother of Paul (Jennifer) Carcagno; dear uncle of Gianni and Salvatore Carcagno; dear nephew, cousin and friend.
An exceptional, thoughtful, generous uncle, brother and brother-in-law. A loyal, caring and true friend to many.
Joe started his career in marketing at Ross Advertising in the late 1980’s, moving to Osborn + Barr, Cooper Automotive and ultimately settling at Edward Jones where he worked in the ,marketing division since 2001. Everywhere along the way, Joe made lifelong, loving friendships based on his strong character, sense of humor and mild temperament.
He had a love for thoroughbred horse racing that he parlayed into a part-time position as a mutual clerk the past two racing seasons at our local racetrack.
Joe was a founding member and regular participant in the “Road Rebel” trips with his friends and weekly “Thirsty Thursday” gatherings at The Blarney Stone.
He loved beagles, The Simpsons, music, and his annual two-week trip to Florida right after Thanksgiving.
Always a willing player when you need to fill out a table for a trivia night. A regular member of various fantasy sports leagues with friends.
He carried on the traits instilled in him by his parents. To be kind, humble, honest and hard-working.
Services: Funeral from KUTIS AFFTON Chapel 10151 Gravois, Monday January 16, 8:45 AM to St. Ambrose Catholic Church for 9:30 AM mass. In lieu of flowers memorials to American Heart Association or Thoroughbred Charities of America (tca.org) appreciated. Visitation Sunday 4:00-8:00 PM.
Oh Joe – I miss you so very much. I was blessed to be part of your team at EJ and got to work with you daily. You were a fabulous mentor, so kind and willing to share your knowledge with me. We met 2-3x a day to work on projects and you were fantastic. I will think of you every time I go to a casino and wish you were with me to have fun. I am still stunned and can’t believe you are gone, however, I am thankful that one day we will see each other again.

I’m going to miss talking to you at the track on Saturdays nights. I was so looking forward to you going on the Runhappy 5K run/walk with Dan and me in September. I know you’ll be walking the farm roads of Claiborne Farm with us in spirit. Our conversations about Triple Crown prospects will be greatly missed. I hope you’re having fun at the big racetrack in Heaven. You touched my life and made it a better place through our shared love of the Thoroughbred horse. RIP my friend.

My heart goes out to Joe’s family and friends. If you knew Joe, you were his friend. His smile and presence was bigger than life itself. His hugs were tight and his talks were intentional. It was a pleasure to see his face every day at work these last 22 years. We will miss your bigger than life grin my friend.
I met Joe his very first day at Edward Jones. I took his photo for his badge. Joe would come by from time to time just to chat about what’s going on with me where was my next travels to. He was such a genuine person. I will miss his and his what’s going on? How are you? I could go on & on . One of a kind my friend!

Joe was one of the best and kindest people you could hope to meet, and your friend as soon as you did. We became cousins decades ago, and I’m so grateful to have had him in my life. I’ll miss our bar crawls, sports talk and his hilarious stories.

Joe was the most kind genuine friend a person could have. We laughed so much. Always there, always present in conversation and a simple delight to be around. Whether sharing a chuckle at some obscure historical reference or discussing the merits of some “Red Sauce’ place i am a richer person for every interaction we had. I will miss you deeply my trusted friend and confidante.
Joe started working at Edward Jones shortly after I did and I have many fond memories from day 1. Mostly of his positive attitude and ability to make everyone he met feel valuable. He and my husband talked many times about their Italian roots and he just had a love for life. I will always remember the fact that he touched everyone’s life in many ways. His absence will be deeply missed. See you later my friend!
While we know not the day nor the hour, we can do our best to be kind. Yours was a life clearly filled with big Love and kindness beyond measure. Your smile and easy manner will remain with all of us. When I think of you, I will see your smiling eyes and easy grin. And, I will carry that with me. Joe was a friend to everyone he met. He could talk to anyone and it was so genuine, sincere and friendly. I will miss goofing around with him at work. He always had a smile and something good to say. I feel like he is looking down on us saying, “carry on friends, be kind, humble, sincere and enjoy life!” He taught us a lot, lets follow his example.

Joe was the most kindness person you ever wanted to meet. I worked with him at Fairmount park. How he loved the horses. He wanted a tour on the backside to see what goes on in the barn area, so he came and hung out with me one day, since I also work for the vet. He was such a joy to be around. I met Joe 2 years ago when we both started working at the racetrack, He definitely was the kind of man everyone has described, I called him “Joe Joe Dancer”. We had a group of us that counted the vts machines after live racing nights, Joe and I had our spots we counted at and would talk about everything and nothing, I will miss him so much, he was quiet, funny, humble, so kind, helpful and a genuine sweetheart, I feel blessed I had him in my life if just for 2 seasons. Joe C, met and knew Joe and had many great times together thru my wife Melissa Schermer who was his coworker at Edward Jones. Joe was a gregarious, outgoing man with a zest of life, will miss all the times we talked and shared stories about Wrestling and Sports and especially his Fairmount Horse Racing tips and how we would joked about going to the IRS window. Just regret not spending more time with Joe because how fun and knowledgeable he was. Will always remember his nickname for our son “Diamond Jack” and how he gave our son a slot machine bank. Joe was there to greet me on my first day at Edward Jones. He said he was sorry the rest of the team was traveling, but he’d make up for it! That was the kind of guy he was, always kind, funny, and willing to lend a hand. We would often joke about what it’s like growing up in an Italian family, and why our waistlines would never be as trim as we’d like it. Joe had a passion for Edward Jones, the relationships he built and took pride in his work. It’s hard to believe he’s gone. He leaves a huge void in our team, I’ll miss his energy, hearing his celebrations on Fridays, and his perfectly timed jokes in meetings. While I’ve only known Joe for 3 years, I’m grateful for our time together, he’s taught me so much, and made an impact on many. See you on the other side Friend.
Joe, I only knew you for a short while but you made it feel like I’d known you forever. It was so great working with you – I always looked forward to our meetings and that’s saying something since I doubt many people look forward to meetings about CT software, ha. Thanks for going with me to Iron Age; I’ll make you proud and will eventually get one of the piercings we talked about. So glad to have known you.
Joe’s positive demeanor had a way of making everyone feel welcomed around him. He was always willing to stop and chat for a bit even after I left Edward Jones. I would run into him in the neighborhood, and we would chat and laugh. He was a good person, and he will definitely be missed.
I learned today that Joe’s dream job was an over-the-road trucker. I wish I had known because I would have enjoyed quizzing him on that topic. Whenever I hear the Smithereens, Joe, I think of you. May you be the brightest star in the heavens and the gold at the end of every rainbow. EJ and the world are poorer for your passing.
Joe’s friendship was a shining light in my personal and professional life. Whether it had been 2 days or 2 months since we last spoke, we could always pick up right where we left off. Many of my best memories at work involve Joe (short sleeve shirt and tie day, Movember, etc) as do many of my favorite out-of-office adventures (Horse Hooky Tuesdays, lots and lots of concerts, trivia nights, traveling for work or fun, etc.) It’s hard to believe we won’t get to do those things together again.
My condolences to all of Joe’s family, friends and co-workers. We’re all better from having Joe in our lives, and I hope we can honor his memory by “living like Joe” and finding joy in each of our own lives during our time on earth. Until we see each other again, buddy.
Joe was my great friend for the last 25 years. We had so many great times together, so many incredible memories. Joe would always help out at the drop of a hat and never got angry about anything. So many great conversations. He introduced me to my wife, for which I am forever grateful. I will miss you so much. Life is so unfair to be taken too soon. Godspeed, my good friend. I’ve been truly blessed to work with Joe on a variety of marketing and sponsorship opportunities before I retired at Edward Jones? He excelled at creating lasting partnerships that added tremendous value to our firm. From a personal standpoint I would say Joe never met a stranger and he always brightened everyone’s day by his love of life and love for others . He was one of our firm’s most trusted stewards and epitomized our Culture of Caring . Many Thoughts and prayers to your entire family!

I’m so sad to hear this. Joe was a great buddy at Cooper Automotive who treated me, 10 years his senior, like a king (and always addressed me as “King”). So glad he went on to a long career at Edward Jones and touched many lives. I will never forget your constant reminder to “Carpe Diem”. Goodbye old friend.

I am grateful for Joe’s friendship over the past 12 years. I will always cherish the many fond memories and the kindness and joy he exuded. My condolences to all that called him a friend. And to his family in particular, I will always remember him telling me about his trips to Chicago and how much he enjoyed spending time with Sal and Gianni. He was a proud uncle and I hope you are comforted by knowing how much he loved you.

Joe always had a smile and genuine cheerfulness. I enjoyed my work interactions with Joe and especially non-work activities as it was always such pleasant and enjoyable experience being around him. He was well liked, loved and will be sorely missed.
Joe was such a wonderful guy! Little did I know when I took on Edward Jones as a very important client 14 years ago that we would have so many fun memories. Traveling for work to beautiful places we joked we never got to enjoy, all of the hole in the wall restaurants we had to seek out, great times at the racetrack, happy hours, casinos, Broadway amateur wrestling nights and Malort shots!
You were so much more than one of the best clients ever!
One of the many things I admired about Joe was his ability to bring joy to those around him. No matter the circumstance, the place was better because he was there. Whether it be a well-timed bit of humorous wisdom, a pat on the back or the twinkle in his smile, he was a kind, gentle and funny presence. Joe called me Country Mouse and we often joked about the differences in our backgrounds and experiences. He disliked driving dark, winding two-lane highways but didn’t hesitate if it led to a track – and he always made me laugh as he recounted his adventures. RIP City Mouse. Peace to the Carcagno family and all who loved him.
Joe was such a wonderfully engaged conversationalist. Every time we went to a concert, track, sporting event or grabbing a bite, his ability to passionately talk about things raised my spirits. He was a gift.

Joe, I am so lucky that I had the opportunity to know you. My first week at EDJ we went to Gioia’s Deli for lunch. Years later you would tell me that someone felt bad I was eating alone at lunch and asked you to take me – you promptly followed this story up with ‘and I’m sure glad I did’. I will miss and cherish our Monday morning team’s messages recapping the weekend NASCAR race or PGA tournament. You were one of a kind, a true mentor to me and taught me how to not get all ‘spun up’. You’re the man, Joe!
I’m going to miss you so much, Joe. I love the friendship we had over 20-plus years. You made everyone around you feel comfortable and so happy. Loved talking about the horses with you, something you and my Dad had in common. Working alongside you since your first day on Sept. 11, 2001, has been a highlight for me. So much laughter. I can’t believe you are gone. .

I’m grateful Joe was my friend. We started the same summer of 2001 together at Edward Jones. We made happy hours into a day job and had so much fun. Every morning meeting was, “where are we going to lunch today?” You made life fun. And when the world created space between us, you were never far away in spirit and willingness to pick up where we left off. Brian and I are grateful you allowed us to be your friend and share our life with you.

I loved that Joe was always willing to jump in and help. He was one of those people that cut to the chase in a meeting, verbalizing what others were thinking. Joe’s warmth and generosity of time are two things I appreciated about him. I was fortunate to work with him on and off on some region-based projects at Edward Jones. No matter the length of time between our interactions, I always felt like I was catching up with a dear friend, not simply another associate. He was gracious with his time and the expertise he was willing to share. One of my fondest memories was attending a Cardinals game with him during a visit to the home office.
