You will be greatly missed aunt Cecilia. I will always remember you and all your love you have shown me throughout my life. You were always there to take pictures, make us all laugh, and just be silly ainy cil. You threw my baby shower for Morgan my oldest daughter after my mom passed. You have opened my eyes to so many things in this world. Ill never forget you, I love you very much.
Ceceila had a special spark when she entered a room she would be laughing! She was hoot , sharing jokes or tidbits of her day !Ceceila was a successful businesswomen in the Upholstery Business or selling homes in St Louis! Our family Dinners and Holidays were special as she made them special! Ceceila loved her animals, and the eye of her life was Marty and his wife! I know her family and friends will keep her in their heart ! May she Rest In Peace . Vandi Hahn and Family
I was always amazed by Aunt Cel. In many ways, my daughter Grace reminds me of her. She was full of spunk and vigor. She was a go-getter, an entrepreneur that had an upholstery business and was a realtor, buying selling and rehabbing real-estate. She was confident and willing to tackle difficult things. As Goldie mentioned, she had a great sense of humor and could make everyone laugh.
However, the memory that has always stuck out to me and the one I treasure the most about Aunt Cel involves my High School graduation. My parents were throwing me a graduation party, with the whole extended family invited to our house. Cel entered into our house through the garage carrying a large chair with a green leather seat and wooden arms. I can still see the scene in my mind. I asked her what the chair was for and she said it was my gift. In my foolish 18 year old brain, I thought, “yeah right. She must have upholstered the chair for my parents antique shop.” What I did not know at that moment was that the chair was my gift. Aunt Cel had gotten the chair from an estate sale at my great-grandfather Kohler’s house shortly after I was born. When she bought it, she decided then and there that she would hold onto it (for all those years) and give it to me for my high school graduation one day. She did just that, after she had reupholstered it.
As soon as I received the chair, I realized what a special gift this was. The other gifts of cash that I received, while appreciated, are all long gone. The chair remains in my house to this day. It is not only a connection to a loved one (my dad’s grandpa) that I never had the privilege of knowing, but it is also one of the most incredibly thoughtful things I have ever received. I will always treasure that chair and think of my incredibly sweet Aunt Cel that gave it to a silly teenager.
Aunt Cil was my fun aunt on both sides of my family, not that other ones were not fun and great to be around. Cil always had me smiling though, while the rest off he family lived in St. Louis or in close counties, we did not. We, as kids, were always treated nice by all the Hahn’s or Blanner’s, Pears, Keils, but of course I always felt like an outsider looking in. But not with Cil, she was so warm, friendly, and just downright goofy, you could not feel awkward around her. She gave my my first nickname outside of our dad. Matty, I did not like that nickname, except by her and whoever else heard her call me that, they got the Cil pass. She built a life with her own two hands and raised my oldest cousin Marty, who was always kind, generous and patient, just like his mom. If you were lucky enough to know her, then you were blessed.
I know Ceceila will be missed her laughter and kindness will always be remembered. I speak for myself and my sisters when I say as children we certainly enjoyed every weekend our Moms arranged for us to be together.
My memories are of all of the older girls getting to walk downtown to the drug store and buying make-up earrings, or just hanging out and having fun. Then in the evenings we would be in charge while our parents went out. That’s when things really got exciting (we were good…. but the house was just a little crazy) with 13 kids running around.
As we grew up and had our own families we didn’t get to see each other very often. But when we did it was so much fun to catch up on each of our lives. Cel’s choice to have her own upholstery business was always an inspiration to me. She truly enjoyed her family and and life. She was loved and will be missed by many.
