Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church and passed away on Monday, April 18, 2022 after a long, valiant and stubborn battle with prostate cancer. Born June 1, 1934 in Birome, Texas and grew up in Galveston, TX. He was the only child of William and Lucille Beheler. Herschell was a proud Aggie. Herschell willingly served his country with the 1st Infantry Division-16th Infantry Rangers in Korea and with 8th Infantry Division in Germany. Herschell was a proud patriot, and always said he’d do it all over again. He retired from Southwestern Bell in 1990, after beginning his career in the Houston area before his transfer to St. Louis in 1977.
Beloved husband of Judi for 42 years; father of Linda Harris Pettit, William Thomas Beheler and Sue Ellen Beheler; 3 grandchildren, all of Texas, Stephen Dudley, Meghen Dudley and Emma Long.
Herschell was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed especially deer and duck hunting from his childhood days in Texas until very recent years when cancer treatments stood in his way. He was a competitive and enthusiastic golfer from his school days in Galveston through last season at Tapawingo. VO Manhattans topped his nightly cocktail list.
Services: Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Most Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 350 E. 4th St., Eureka, followed by Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Herschell’s name may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, PO Box 1510, Ranson, WV 25438 or the American Cancer Society. He will be missed by family, friends, hunting buddies, golfing comrades and his Yorkie, Molly. A special love to Fr. Leo Spezia, Fr. Joe Kempf and Ron Schaefer, who played influential roles in his conversion to Catholicism. A service of KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL.
