Gary E. Appleton, Sr. age 78 passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023. Beloved husband of Judy Lane Appleton (nee: Jones) for 59 years. Dearest father of Gary Jr. (Katie) Appleton, Jeff Appleton and the late Joe (survived by Tammy) Appleton; loving grandfather of Mateo, Joey, Jacob, Sara and Ellie Appleton; dear brother of Mel Appleton; preceded in death by his parents Sidney and Eva Appleton and siblings Jerry, Sid, Carolyn and Harold; our dear uncle, cousin and friend.
Services: Memorial visitation at Kutis South County Chapel 5255 Lemay Ferry Road Thursday, April 6 from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers memorials to American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital appreciated

Deeply sorry to learn of the passing of Gary. When I heard, I dug up some pictures (posted to Facebook) from our old softball teams at the Arnold Elks and Arnold Park. Those were good times. Big Gary was always the elder statesman of the team, about 20 years older than the rest of us back in the days when you rarely saw anyone over 40 playing in a men’s softball league. But he was an impressive athlete even at that age and was, more than anything, a fierce competitor. He was also very fun and entertaining to be around and had a delightfully dry wit and an unapologetic candor. We’ve banked at the same bank for decades and everytime I’d bump into him there or somewhere else, he’d always have the same mischevious, $h!t eating grin on his face. That’s how I’ll remember him. He was very dear to his family and so many others. I know he will be deeply missed. Rest In Peace, “Slick.”
