James Robert Woods, (AKA Jim, Bob, Red) Born: July 14, 1938, entered into rest January 17, 2022. Survived by his wife Sandra J (Parini) Woods; his daughter Dana (Joseph) Nickell; Grandchildren Ryan Nickell (Amy Brewer); Kathryn (Jason) Hurley; Great-Grandchildren Monroe and Nolan Hurley; Sister in-law Janet Woods; Brother in-law Salvatore Lococo; Sister in-law Kalleen Parini; uncle; great uncle; great-great uncle & friend to many.
Preceded in death by his Brothers Kenneth (Ila) Woods and John Leroy (Barbara) Woods, his Sisters Dorothy (Jim) Douthitt; Marie Guinn and Clara (Juanita) Lococo; Brother in-law John E. Parini Brother in-law.
James was born and raised in St. Louis Missouri. While in high school he worked at family-owned donut shop; gas station; he was an apprentice butcher at Henry’s. He was in the Army and served in the Korean War – sharpshooter & marksman and worked as a cook.
Employed by AAA (Automobile Club of Missouri) retiring after 39 years of service. He had been retired for nearly 20 years.
He was a dedicated devoted husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa (gramps) and friend to everyone he met. Family meant everything to him.
He was known to many as grandpa at Holy Family School in South City and had several adopted grandchildren including his grandchildren’s friends.
He loved working in his yard and puttering around in his garage. If you needed something chances are he most likely had it in a jar or drawer whether it was a nut, bolt, wheel or lawnmower.
He was the life of the party and kid at heart. His granddaughter said it best – If you’ve heard him say, “Over the lips, down the gums, look out stomach, here she comes” you have the special memory of throwing back a shot with him..
He loved spending time at the lake from helping to build a cabin to riding ATVs, boating, swimming, sneaking in a cigar, visiting neighbors, enjoying fireworks, and setting off lanterns for loved ones lost.
If you needed help he was always there. He was always saying, “Do you need a hand?”
He had the most amazing attitude when it came to his disease Till the end, he still replied with, “If I’d be any better, I couldn’t stand it,” when asked how he was doing. He is already so missed.
SERVICES: Memorial visitation at Kutis Affton Chapel 10151 Gravois Road on Saturday, February 12, 1:00 p.m. until Memorial service at 4:00 p.m. Private interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital; Leukemia & Lymphoma Society; or Evelyn’s House BJC Hospice West County in his honor.
Grandfather made everyone feel special and loved!
Bob was a wonderful person, and I’m so blessed to have known him. My wife knew him as “Grandfather” at Holy Family School, but I knew him as “Bob” and as a poker buddy with the Thursday Night Poker Club.
He was one of the nicest people I ever knew. God Bless him, and may he Rest In Peace With The Lord.

Bob was a much loved family member. Family gatherings were not the same without him.

We have many great memories of Grandpa from Holy Family. I mostly remember his kindness and sense of humor! Sending our love and condolences to Sandy and all the family. We are keeping you all close in our prayers.
Bob lived up the street where I grew up. I was blessed to know him and Sandy through their son in law Joe and daughter Dana. They threw the best Halloween parties around. He loved everyone and would help anyone that he could. My condolences go out to his family knowing that he made a difference in many lives. He will be greatly missed !
Bob will be so very missed. He had this smile that I describe as a “Howdy Doody” smile. Loved him to pieces!
He has the most loving family and friends that will keep his memory alive for many years to come.
Uncle Bob brought so much joy to family and friends! We will miss his big smile, warm hugs, and nonstop kindness. His love for Aunt Sandy, daughter Dana and all his family was a living example of the good in this world. His legacy is one of love. What a wonderful man!!! ❤️
Bob was sure a great friend and all around person, if I needed help with anything I would walk across the street and he would say you need help or how about a beer, sure miss that smiling face. Rest in Pease Bob. My prayers are with Sandy and the family.
Uncle Bob never ran low on warm hellos, smiles and hugs. It was a blast to watch him moving and grooving across the floor dancing. He was so charming and welcoming to Mark. A gentleman by any definition.

What a great man and example he set for so many of us that were blessed to know him. Katie and Ryan, I am so blessed to be your friend and have the chance to love Grandpa, he truly was the most fun person (along with Grandma) at every. single. Party. I will never forget telling Jason he not only hit the lottery with Katie, but also hit the family lottery. What a beautiful life and he and Grandma created, which gave Dana and Joe to continue that beautiful life that Monroe and Nolan will give to their grandkids someday. His impact on so many will live on literally forever. That’s a life well loved and lived. Grandpa will forever be legendary to so many of us
I loved when I worked at the Affton Schnucks I got hugs from both Grandma And Grandpa he will truly be missed,
Bob was one of my favorite people. He was always so upbeat and friendly. He made everyone around him feel so much better because of his attitude about life. Bob and Sandy have been close friends of ours for many years. Bob often would make jokes, a lot of them to needle Sandy. My favorite was when he was commenting on Sandys cooking. We were discussing biscuits and gravy and he said , “you could mortar bricks with Sandy’s gravy.” He knew she was listening and had that little grin on his face to catch her reaction. Bob loved Sandy so much and this showed when she was in the hospital and he was home by himself. “I miss that woman something awful”, Bob would say with a quivering voice. Bob, you will be sorely missed!
At a recent Birthday gathering I mentioned to Bob that I thought he was the 1st Uber Driver. In the early 50s there were multiple times when he just happened to be around when a trip to St. Johns hospital in the city was needed. When I was 9 and broke my leg, he took me to the hospital. When my Mom needed to go to the hospital to have my brother Jimmy, he was the driver. And also took my Mom a couple other times. I said yep you were the 1st Uber Driver; He said laughingly, But I don’t remember getting paid. I said, good reason; you weren’t. He will sadly be missed by the Lococo’s.
A friend indeed. Bobbie was a guy you couldn’t help but like. Always enjoyed meeting up with him at family-friends get togethers. Best thing I can say about him
is, I never heard him say anything bad about someone. He will be missed but always in our good memories. It is a blessing to have him and Sandy’s friendship. A candle was lit in his memory at the Immaculate Conception church here in Owensville.
