Services; Visitation at Kutis South County Chapel (5255 Lemay Ferry) on Tuesday 12/13 from 9AM until prayers at 10:30AM. Then to St. Bernadette Catholic Church for 11AM mass. Interment private. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Vincent DePaul Society appreciated.

Pam and I are shocked and terribly sorry to hear of Wayne’s passing. We will not be able to attend due to prior commitments. Please accept our sincere condolences.
I will not be able to attend his service as I will be out of town.
Wayne will be missed. We worked together for many years. Aside from work, we ran the Nashville and St louis marathons and played many rounds of golf together. Due to health reasons, I was not able to play golf this year so we were not able to discuss MIZZOU. May he rest in peace.

Wayne was such a great brother. He was always there when we needed help with Mom and Dad. He was a very kind and loving person. He will truly be missed. I am sure he is up in heaven with my husband Larry.

So sorry for the loss of Wayne. He was a good friend from grade school, through high school and up to the day of his passing. He always had a warm smile. I am so glad to have spent time with him golfing a few months ago with several other grade school/high school friends. He will be missed by all.

Wayne was a great friend and companion, especially during our high school and college years together. We had many great times together both at Valle High School and at Mizzou. He was a man of principle and strong in his religious convictions. He was especially devoted to his family and in his love for Pegi. It was a blessing to get reacquainted with him in recent years during our annual golf outing with high school friends. He will be missed. Please accept our sincere condolences on your loss.

For many years, Mr. and Mrs. Winters have been so visibly supportive of Alicia and her amazing efforts as a teacher here, but also of the students and their learning experience. Wayne was such a good friend and neighbor. He is one of the kindest most considerate people you could ever meet. I will miss seeing him on the bench on our porch talking to Bill. Please do not hesitate to call us if there is anything that we can do to help you through this difficult time.

I worked with Wayne and through the years our paths crossed many times on various assignments and projects. He had such a kind soul and could be relied upon to help out with anything that needed to be done. I am so sorry to hear of his passing and you, Pegi, and his family have my sympathy. There is another star shining from heaven above these days.

I had the opportunity to get to know your Dad much more since moving back to help my Mom. He spoke so very proudly about both of you almost every time we “spoke over the fence.” Whether we were solving the Cardinal baseball team woes or he was helping me get those darn moles, he always was there with a helping hand. I want you to know what an amazing next door neighbor your Dad and Mom have been for my parents too. We will miss Wayne tremendously, but I know your Dad lived what it means to be a neighbor, and I hope he’s with my Dad getting caught up on golf, New England Town, Mizzou and the Cardinals! We are always a few steps away.
My deepest condolences to the entire Winters family. Wayne and I were co-workers for several decades. We worked together regularly as frontline managers. As I was a few years younger, he often mentored me as a newer manager. I knew him as a kind, generous man of the highest integrity. He will certainly be missed by all that knew him. To Mrs Winter, God bless and keep you and your family during this trying time.
I was sad to hear of Waynes passing. He was a fine fellow with a great sense of humor. I know he will be missed by friends and families. I was glad to have known him. May his soul rest in peace in the light of God.
Dear Pegi, Chip, Alicia and the Winters family,
This is an addendum to an earlier posting I made on December 8th. I am doing this as unfortunately, due to a recent severe cold, I will not be able to attend Wayne’s visitation and funeral mass tomorrow. I flew back to Kansas City from Phoenix on Sunday with the `expectation of paying my final respects to Wayne and his family. I concluded today that I may be too contagious to attend in person, but I will be with you in spirit. I will try to reduce to writing my remembrances and feelings about my dear friend.
Wayne and I were friends throughout our years at Valle, especially in high school. We both played football and basketball. In football, I played left tackle and Wayne played left end. In basketball, I played forward, and Wayne played guard. I can still visualize Wayne coming off the basketball court during a time out with his glasses totally fogged up. It had to affect his shooting accuracy. We were average athletes at best, but we developed a relationship and competitive spirit that propelled us on to our college days at Mizzou. We were roommates for four years in the dormitory, fraternity house and an apartment. (I will also mention that Roy Mueller also played left end on the Valle football team and he joined us as a roommate during our four years at Mizzou.) We both decided to major in accounting that led to successful careers with the IRS (Wayne) and for me in public accounting. As college sophomores, we received low numbers in the military draft lottery. To avoid being drafted after graduation, Wayne decided to join Army ROTC. Wayne told me “They’ll pay us $100 /month while we’re going to school.” I followed him and joined ROTC and we were both commissioned as second lieutenants in the US Army upon graduation. I remember on some of those trips between Columbia and Ste. Genevieve we would stop in St. Louis to visit Larry and Mary Jane Bahr. The Bahr family was always so hospitable.
Wayne was my best man in my marriage to Stephanie. Wayne eventually settled in St. Louis and I ended up working on both coasts and eventually in Kansas City where I retired and now reside. We became reacquainted recently with a group of high school friends who gather for an annual golf outing in the fall. I played a round of golf with Wayne last September. He was the same person: low key, humble, warm and moderately competitive. He was always composed and well-grounded in his beliefs. During our conversations over a libation after the golf round we’d talk about Mizzou sports, family and his involvement in his parish. He was concerned about how the consolidation of parishes being sponsored by the Archdiocese might impact his parish. It was evident that Wayne’s faith had flourished during his life and that he was a deeply committed to serving our Lord.
I have so many fond memories of Wayne. He was a kind, even keeled person who was always willing to lend a hand when he sensed a need. He was compassionate and gracious.
He was dedicated to his family and in service to his God. Knowing him made me a better person and I will forever cherish his friendship.

Dear Pegi, Alicia and Chip
I am very saddened by the loss of Wayne. We were longtime friends through grade school, high school college and through our adult lives. He was so willing to give his time to his Family, St. Bernadette parish and Jefferson Barrack’s. I will remember him as a very good friend forever.
I firmly believe Wayne is in a better place now.
