Velasco, Joseph “Joe” 64, passed Saturday, September 3, 2022 following a long and brave battle with ALS. He leaves his wife of 34 years, Debbie (Cobb) Velasco; son, Antonio Velasco; son, Michael Cobb; five grandchildren, Ethan, Elliot, Raeden, Bryleigh, Emerson; & numerous other family and friends.
At the age of 17 he proudly joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served with honor. A true Marine until the end, he never failed to
celebrate the Corps birthday as well as Veterans Day with his brothers. Joe loved his family and was known for his quick wit and
sharp sense of humor. He had a passion for music, cooking, football and being the world’s best paw paw.
Services: Kutis Funeral Home in South County. Visitation September 7th, from 4-7pm. Funeral Thursday September 8th, at 9:30am.
To my brother that made me laugh even when I didnt feel like it, feel loved even through endless teasing(cooking, monkey ears, tattle tail and torment of weekly reminders of how many hours I have before I go back to work.) Sorry not sorry for snitching on you growing up for scaring me, teasing me… and the things I totally made up.
Not too many people would want to make others laugh and make them feel wanted going through this horrible, scary unfair disease AND despite it all, always Marine Proud.
P.S. I forgive you for running away from me in the field in the tornado!

Joe was SO smart but didn’t let everyone know.
Joe was my closest sibling when we were very little.
We were only 12 months apart so we were joined at the hip when we were little. Slept in the kitchen trundle bed. Played slip and slide in the bath and he took me as his “show and tell” when he was in kindergarten. I was smaller and we had to convince kids I was his “big” sister.
We took a very long walk almost daily, in the scorching summer, to the public pool for the day. Packed lunch to take to the park like dorks.
There was always Koolaid.
A lot of Kick ball and hide-and-seek after dark. Those days were safe and fun and I did it all with Joe.
RIP little brother.
This man, my goofy, funny brother Joe, did something that we miss in our world today. He made people laugh. He made people feel good. He made people happy. Even as this insidious disease attacked his body, his mind was so sharp. This man loved his sons and grandkids, but mostly he loved his wife, and he let the world know it. He was, indeed that proud Marine. Through all the pain, he would always “stand straight and tall “. Though my heart hurts for all of us who grieve for him, I have this wonderful image of him hugging mom and dad…and saluting his Marine brother, John. I will see you again one day, Joe, when I go Home.
I vision you as the pudgy pre-teen and growing into the handsome Marine.you had the knack of quick wits and making everyone laugh.I miss all those texts you sent picturing the food you were grilling and telling me too bad I wasn’t there BUT not enough to share anyway!! Have so many memories I will forever cherish in my heart.Love you so much little brother Joe.I still use the name you gave me…(antbeeree).
