Baptized into the Hope of Christ’s Resurrection Sunday, May 14, 2023.
Joan met her husband Joe as a teenager on a blind date at Springdale pool, and they eventually married in 1951. Her life was full of the adventure raising her children, but she was also an accomplished piano player and shared her music with all, a working Mom for 20+ years at Famous Barr, she loved nature hikes, camping, animals, and live theater. She taught her children to Ice Skate at Carondelet Park. Joan had a quick wit and sense of humor and could fill the house with her laughter. Joan passed on Mother’s day, her day, which is reflective of her selfless devotion to her children and everyone in her life.
Beloved wife of the late Joseph Tierney; loving mother of Daniel (Caren), Michael, Terence (Christine), David (Kathy), Susan, Andrew “Bo” (Elissa), Anne, Matthew (the late Christy), Christopher (Chumel) Tierney, and Janet (John) Fodge. Adoring grandmother of 19 and great-grandmother of 13. Our dearest aunt, great-aunt, and friend to many.
Services: Memorial Visitation at Kutis Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois on Thursday, May 25, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral Mass on Friday, May 26 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church at 12 noon. Inurnment at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to N.A.M.I. or the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, appreciated.

To our wonderful Aunt, who never met a stranger, left everyone she met better off, and was truly an Angel. We will all miss your wonderful smile and kindness. Thank you for raising a caring and compassionate family, and always being there for everyone who needed you. Our heart is heavy today, and we know the families is too. What a great loss to the world, she will be missed by so many. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief.

My heart broke when I learned of Joan’s passing. She was a wonderful woman, a devoted and loving wife and mother. She was a witty, kind, and gracious lady. Like everyone who knew her, I loved her and will fondly remember her. My deepest sympathies to all.

My husband and I went to school with Joan from KG to our graduation from Cleveland H.S. She was one of the sweetest girls I have ever known. We shopped at the same Grocery Store for years when our children were growing and they lived on Bellerieve. Just recently her son posted a photo for me of Joan hiking and she looked as happy and cheerful as always. Please accept our sympathy on the loss of such a beautiful and loving mother, grandmother and ggrandmother. Memories of time with her will always be in my heart.
