Stewart, Bert J. June 29, 1924 – July 12, 2016. Bert is survived by the love of his life, Margie Cook, brother Ralph “Boot” Stewart, children Jim “Bert” Stewart, Bob (Sue) Stewart, Pam (Tim) Dolan, Scott Stewart and Kelly (John) Unger; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Bert was a graduate of McKinley High School, Harris Teachers College and Washington University. Growing up in South St. Louis, Bert became a successful business owner of Stewart’s Confectionary in Lafayette Square, the Arabian Room Cocktail Lounge in the Bevo area and later a partner in Club Continental on Virginia. After closing his business endeavors in the late fifties, he started a long career in the insurance business at American Mutual Insurance Company lasting nearly 30 years. Bert was always active in the community. He was a longtime member of the Solid Fifties Club. He was also very active politically, serving as Lemay Democratic Committeeman for 25 years, as well as Director of Lemay Fire District for 18 years. He collaborated with candidates and officeholders in local county, city, state as well as federal political positions. He was well respected by his colleagues at all levels. He will be deeply missed by all.
