Dedicated husband, father, grandfather (Papa), uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend to many- passed away at his home in St. Louis, MO on Wednesday, March 29, 2023. He was 76 years old.
Steve (a.k.a. Randy) was born the oldest of four to Marvin and Ruth (nee Stam) Cauley in Ironton, MO on December 9, 1946. After graduating from Cahokia High School, Steve went on to serve in United States Army during the Vietnam War. After which, he entered the trades as a construction laborer with the Construction Laborers Union Local 110. He was a loyal and proud member for 50 years. He finished out his career as a Jurisdictional Agent for the Eastern Missouri Laborers District Council before he retired in July 2012.
Steve was known for having a green thumb. On most days you could find him outside working in the yard or tending to his garden. He would always receive so many compliments on how pretty his yard looked with the many trees, plants, bushes, and flowers he planted over the years. Steve was also an avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt, fish, hike, and split wood. One of his most loved things to do was to travel with his wife. They especially loved to go to the Mountains and National Parks to explore and see the sights. Steve never knew a stranger, he took great pride in his work and never did anything half-way, and he was the know-it-all of a million things!
Being a grandpa was one of the best parts of Steve. His grandkids loved to wrestle with him and they especially loved their weekly walks to the store to get candy and treats. The three of them loved to get into trouble together. Steve attended many of their dance recitals and baseball games rooting as loudly as he could for all to hear. He loved them so much and they knew it!
Steve is the loving husband of Sharron (nee Cruz) Cauley, the dear father of Desiree (Martin) Gruettemeyer, and Steven Cauley II. The dear brother of Jack (Debbie) Cauley and the late Sandy Armstrong, and Debra Shevlin. He was the loving grandfather to Embree and Garrett Gruettemeyer.

Randy was our neighbor. He was always so kind. His yard is beautiful. He takes a lot of time to make it look nice. We will miss seeing him and his wife Sharron taking their walks and working in their yard together. Prayers for her during this difficult time.
My warmest condolences Steve. I remember listening to Styx on the way to Ronnie’s theater as a kid with your dad driving, he was one is the nicest guys.
So sorry for your loss. God bless you and your family.
Truly a good man in all ways. I am proud to say he was my friend.
