Saputo, Michael J., 73, of St. Louis, MO, passed away December 2, 2020. Michael was born February 28, 1947, in St. Louis, MO. He was an educator for more than 20 years with the Archdiocese of St. Louis. After retiring, he worked part-time for JC Penney. Family and friends will remember him for his sense of humor. He always had a joke or something funny to share. Michael was an avid sports fan, and most certainly the biggest New York Yankee fan. 5 years ago, he was able to make the trip to Cooperstown and visit the Baseball Hall of Fame, a dream of his forever. He was a walking history book and told the best stories. His family always looked forward to cards from him because there was always a special message. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas P. Saputo, and sister, Leonora Saputo-Wentz. Survivors include his mother Lillian “Jean” Saputo, brother Thomas (Catherine) Saputo and brother Giovanni Saputo. He also was an incredible uncle, great uncle and great great uncle to several nieces and nephews who loved him very much. Our dear cousin and friend.
Services: Visitation at Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry, Monday, December 7, 4 p.m. until service at 7 p.m. Service concludes at funeral home.
I am so very sorry to hear about Mr. Saputo. He was my dad’s (Pat Johnson) lifelong best friend since the two of them met in college. Mr. Saputo always felt like a family member to me. And I know my dad felt the same way. Few people are lucky enough in life to have such a kind, funny, and devoted person in their life. I have so many wonderful memories of him from my childhood and teenage years. He would often come down to Texas and stay with us for a week during the summer when I was growing up. We were always so excited when he would come to visit. He always had so many funny stories and observations about life to share with us. When I was in the 4th grade he helped (with the help of his sister or sister-in-law if I remember correctly) me get my first ever Cabbage Patch Kid for Christmas that year during the Cabbage Patch craze of the early 1980s. They were impossible to find in our small town in Texas. But, Mr. Saputo saved the day. Dad and I drove up the day after Christmas to visit Mr. Saputo for a few days and pick up my new doll. I mean, who else has a dad whose best friend would take the time to hunt down a Cabbage Kid? I don’t know of any. We were all blessed by Mr. Saputo in so many ways. I am thankful that he and dad met all those years ago in college. My dad passed away over the summer. Mr. Saputo was a devoted friend until then end. His frequent calls cheered my dad up and made him feel better even on his sickest days. I can’t imagine what my dad’s life would have been like if he’d never met Mr. Saputo. My dad had 3 friends and Mr. Saputo was one of them. As for me, outside of my family, I can count the people who truly made an impact on me in life on one hand. Mr. Saputo was one of them. I bet he and my dad are up in heaven right now having a grand time. God bless him.
We will miss you Uncle Mike. I have so many wonderful memories of baseball games and our rivalry between the Royals and Yankees.
I will always cherish the times you and I went to the driving range and when we played rounds of golf and you were patient as I always seem to lose my ball in the fairway. Your Sense of humor was like no other and I will miss it.! I love you!!! Gina

I remember once at uncle Pete’s house for a birthday dinner everyone was testing Mike’s knowledge of baseball. He was amazing. Got every question right. We were about 9 or 10 at the time. Rest In Peace Mike.
I remember mike through high school and part of college
. We would play pinnacle at mu mom and dads house with Kent and Frank pass midnight. Im sorry I ran out of his address after we moved from Texas to Olathe Kansas.We had fun playing baseball together and kidding his brother. Sorry for his loss.

Mike was an extension of our family that will be missed..His kindness to our children and grandchildren was so amazing.
From the day I met him I knew he was special. He and my husband had the best time telling stories about their college days and they were funny. One time they bought a car and cut the top off to have a convertible. It wouldn’t always make it up hills so the passengers would get out and push it.
They bth became teachers and were dedicated to educating children. I’m sure his students were blessed with his teaching style and sense of humor.
He loved his family and always was proud of their accomplishments. We visited them twenty five years ago and felt like we had been friends for years because of his stories.
Mr. Saputo was a great friend of my father. He will be missed.
Mr. Saputo was my 6th,7th8th grade teacher at St.Margaret of Scotland. He wanted everyone to learn. He was funny, showed cards tricks til this day I still do 1 he taught me. I was looking on internet to see if I can find him so he could come to our class reunion. I was shocked to see his obituary. I remember talking about the Yankees all the time. Great man, sorry I was late.
