Beloved wife of the late Saverio “Sam” Saputo; dearest mother of Peter (Susan) Saputo; loving Nana of John Peter “Jack” and Joseph Paul Saputo; dear sister of Jean (the late Pat) Bretzler, Brenda (Jim) McDonnell, and the late Margaret (Sal) Mayo and Patricia (Frank) Schmitt; special sister-in-law of Josephine Delia and Delores Saputo; our dear aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend.
JoAnn served for 52 years as legal secretary and office manager for Aubuchon, Raniere & Panzeri and predecessor firms.
To meet JoAnn was to know JoAnn and become friends. Filled with kindness and compassion, she gave selflessly of her time and talents to others. JoAnn found joy in many things, but mostly in her faith and relationships with family and friends.
SERVICES: Visitation at Assumption Catholic Church Saturday, January 8, 9:30AM until funeral Mass at 10:30AM. Masks required and vaccination highly preferred. For those of you uncomfortable attending, Mass will be livestreamed at assumptionstl.org and there will be a Celebration of Life planned in the future. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Louis Arc www.slarc.org, Society of St. Vincent DePaul www.svdpstlouis.org or charity of your choice appreciated. KUTIS SOUTH COUNTY.
This is a strange request to appear on a condolence page and I apologize for that, but my maiden name was also Guss. There are so few of us that I wanted to reach out to see if I might be related to JoAnn. I have done some work with Ancestry.com and would like to share the findings with her branch of the family to see if we could find any connections. Also, my late sister Linda bore a strong resemblance to JoAnn. Thank you in advance for any response.
JoAnn was a beautiful fun loving person. So good hearted and such a smile . I will always remember her style and loved to see her when she walked into mass on Sunday . We all lived in Sacred Heart parish in north St. Louis and I will always remember her smiling My condolences and prayers to the family.

JoAnn was an absolute delight to have known. I am honored to have known her and Sam. Lots of love and prayers. I wish I could be there in person so lots of virtual hugs.
Joann was such a witty fun woman. Her smile could light up a room. I haven’t seen her in a few years. We would catch up on the Hill and laugh over a cocktail or two. Rest In Peace

Aunt Joann was a larger than life personality. Her laugh, smile and mannerisms will forever stay with me. She was the embodiment of love and FUN in my eyes. Her soul is now forever a piece of us and I am so thankful for that and to have had her in my life. I am also so thankful she was there for my Nanie (Josephine Delia). She was her best friend and partner in crime. The two of them were two peas in a pod. I am praying for healing for your hearts and hers as you grieve. Thankfully we know we do not cease to exist but live on in the hearts of those we have touched. Joann’s energy could never be destroyed or forgotten. She is always with us now.
I would love to be with you all in person to hug you and cry with you. In lui of that, I will be attending the service remotely. Thank God for technology.
I hope we can connect and stay in touch over the years. I would love to have a copy of the genealogy research you have done at some point so my family can have that piece of our family history.

Dear Pete, Susan, Jack and Joe
It was a delight to know your Mom.
She was special lady to anyone who got to know her. She loved her family. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.

Such great sadness to lose my favorite Aunt.
.Joanne was was the ” cool” Aunt.. the fun Aunt, the Aunt that was so stylish and wore the best hats…..the Aunt that gave the best gifts when I was young.
I will always remember having feelings of excitement as a child when I heard we would be seeing my favorite Uncle Soup and favorite Aunt Joann because there was certainly going to be a good time had,….with those two, lots of laughs, smiles and good stories.
Excluding the nuns that educated me, Joann was the first adult female who I knew to have been a career girl, she left such a huge positive impression on my life.
As an adult I now reflect on her generous gifts of selfless love. Whether it was giving my Nanna Saputo her immense countless acts of caring love and time over many, many decades, to helping my Mom out of some jams when she was raising her family and hadn’t learned to drive yet.
I am sad that I couldn’t see and speak her just one more time. In my opinion Joanns angel wings were earned long ago while giving, loving and sharing her life here with us.
I am joyous & comforted in knowing she surely is in God’s heavenly embrace and feel honored & privileged to have had Joann as a favorite Aunt.
It was a delight to know Jo! Her wit and her mischievous sense of humor were part of her signature charm! Every time I would call the office to talk with my brother, I would often spend 15-20 minutes chatting with her, getting all the scoops on him, the firm and of course herself.
She took such good care of those guys. I laugh when I think of their first foray into computers. She told me great stories and I can only imagine there were many more that she kept to herself!
Most of all I can hear her distinctive voice and that infectious laugh, whenever I think of her. Life gives us so many gifts and she was certainly a gift to everyone who knew her.
I am so sorry that I missed the Zoom Mass as I mistakenly used my local time on my calendar. (I don’t have JoAnn to remind me!)
I am so sorry for your loss as I can only imagine what a big hole will be left in your family gatherings.
We were sorry to hear about JoAnn. We tried to watch the funeral via the internet but were unable to. We will keep your family in our prayers. Please keep in touch as we would like to try to have another family reunion in the near future. We can be contacted at jguss@yhti.net
I am sorry about Aunt Jo Ann’s passing. I still have the little porcelain angel she gave me the last time I saw her. It makes me think of her.
