It is with a heavy heart that the family of Mary Joan Heaven-Mulick announces her passing on
Saturday, June 9, 2018. Joan was born on January 6, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Charles
Robert Heaven and Mary Joan Fedel Heaven. She attended St. Mark Catholic High School,
demonstrating her sharp mind and serving as Junior Class President before graduating in
1956. Joan married Richard Francis Mulick two years later, beginning her 57 year adventure
with the love of her life.
Joan joined Richard in his move across country to begin service in the United States Air Force.
She loved and prioritized her role as a military spouse, participating in the Officer’s Wives Club
and building a loving home in which to raise a family. As their children grew older, Joan
reentered the workforce, excelling, no matter the position. While Richard was stationed in
Virginia, she launched a successful career in real estate at a time when men dominated the
market. In Oklahoma City, she quickly moved into management at an upscale boutique,
eventually opening two additional locations. In the final years of Ricard’s life, Joan took on her
greatest role as loving caregiver. Above all else, Joan will be remembered for her compassion
for others, her fierce loyalty to those she loved, and her faith. Those who survive her find peace
in knowing she is with her Richard once again.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Charles; husband, Richard; her in-laws,
Flora and Waldon; sister-in-law, Joan Glader; and grandson, Daniel.
She is survived by her brother Charles; son, Dan Mulick and his wife Carol; daughter, Mia
Hughes; daughter, Debbie Downs and her husband Greg; grandchildren, Jessie Hughes
Hammock and her husband Jason, Sam Hughes, Jack Downs, Zeke Downs, MaryKate Downs,
Tucker Mulick and Tanner Mulick; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Prosperi; brother-in-law, Jerry Glader
and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to all those that cared for her especially the
palliative care and hospice teams at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City and the compassionate
caregivers from Faith, Hope and Love.
Services will be held at St. Luke’s the Evangelist Church, 7230 Dale Ave., Richmond Heights.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 21, 2018 from 9:00-9:30 immediately followed by the funeral mass. Burial at Jefferson
Barracks National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made in her memory to the
