Beloved husband of Mary Manning (nee Zeman); loving father of Christopher Manning and Rachel (Timothy) Nickless; dear grandfather of Grace and Tyler Nickless and William Manning; dear brother of George (Glenda) and Henry Manning; dear uncle of Jennifer (Mira) Belgrave and Eric (Keely) Manning.
Bruce was a 35 year member of AWWA (American Water Works Association) and former chairman of the Maryland Heights Police Commission.
Services: Funeral from KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL 10151 Gravois, Monday August 9, 12:30 PM. Interment Park Lawn Cemetery. Memorials to St Jude Children’s Hospital appreciated. Visitation Sunday 4:00-8:00 PM.

So sorry Mary and family for your loss. Bruce Manning worked tirelessly to bring safe drinking water to so many. He was passionate in his work with water chemistry and troubleshooting treatment plant issues around the Country. Bruce was awarded the Missouri American Water Works Association’s highest honor the George Warren Fuller Award to acknowledge his distinguished service to our profession and association. He will be missed.

Dear Manning Family – I worked with Bruce for the past 3+ years on a drinking water project in northern New Jersey. Bruce helped us all tremendously and was highly respected by his colleagues and our client. Bruce and his dizzying intellect, ingenuity and insight were the driving force behind an innovative treatment solution. Bruce developed the concept, confirmed it through bench work, demonstrated the performance in piloting and worked on site and remotely to help get the built facility on a solid footing. He understood the factors stressing Ceriodaphnia dubia and knew how to treat the residuals to avoid impacting them. He spent some very long hours on the bench work and under some challenging weather conditions on the pilot work. In short, he worked his tail off. It is not a stretch to say “no Bruce, no solution.” He was the rare professional who understood the scientific, engineering and operational perspectives of this work. He was also eager to share his knowledge and experience with the whole team. The solution was built full scale and is performing, to his credit, as he predicted. His colleagues described him as “a really kind person and so knowledgeable” and “a great person and coworker.” He was truly one of a kind. My most sincere condolences Mary and to your entire family. I am deeply saddened. Bruce was one of the most amazing professionals I have ever known. His knowledge, humor and personality made him a pleasure to work with on some of the most technically challenging projects I have ever been involved with. In South Carolina he was nick-named “Super Bruce” and “Bruce Almighty” for his abilities to make our water sparkle when everyone else said it could not be done! It was always a pleasure to see him even during the darkest moments, always chipper and looking for ways to improve operations. The world has lost a truly great water professional and human being. Much love.
Bruce will be missed immensely. He was one of a kind, always positive and humble, a role model to many of us at Jacobs! His memory will be a good one for me!
Mary, my deepest and most heartfelt condolences for your entire family. I have been truly blessed to know Bruce for several years. Getting to know him as a coworker, but more so as a good friend, a brother in Christ. A man of profound faith and integrity. A man who loved his family and those around him with every fiber of his being. A brilliant man with an even more brilliant heart and soul.

Very sorry to hear of Bruce’s passing. Bruce solved problems no one else could solve, but truly his influence was being a genuine person, full of kindness, enthusiasm, and care for others.
Bruce and I were not just good friends but were spiritual Brothers thru the years. The loss of this Great and Mighty Man leaves a void in our lives. Our prayers are with his amazing wife and wonderful children. We will always cherish the wonderful memories and if anything needs fixing in Heaven, I know my Brother Bruce is on it.

Beyond his incredible experience, knowledge, and expertise in all things drinking water, what struck me most about Bruce was his kindness and buoyant personality–thinking about him, you can’t help but smile. I was shocked to hear of Bruce’s passing. I worked with him for many years at County Water. Even after we both left for greener pastures I would call him with a question and he was always glad to help. One of the nicest, smartest guys I ever met. May God bless and comfort his family.

Bruce Almighty was the person CH2M HILL and Jacobs called on when other highly technical and qualified personnel could not figure out the answer. He saved many projects and many $Ms for the company. Unlike many other technical experts, he did not rely on formulas or past experience to solve problems. He was able to address a particular problem in terms of first principles very quickly. Too quickly…. in terms of billability……………….. Many times, his solutions were received with great skepticism…… He took great pleasure in demonstrating their efficacy and reliability to those original doubters, who became believers.
His mental acumen was not confined to water treatment. He successfully self treated his son’s misalignment of his arm, to the astonishment of the medical community. He often took his fishing gear on his travels and in his off time caught many fish, took a picture of it, kissed it and tossed it back…..
Bruce was one of a kind and will be sorely missed.
I’m so terribly sorry to hear of Bruce’s passing! I so enjoyed working with him when he came to SE Washington to work at the Hanford site. Great insights into so many things and wonderful sense of humor. Sincere condolences to the entire family. I hope your memories bring you great comfort.
I am so sorry to hear of Bruce’s passing. He was largely responsible for hiring me here at County water, now Missouri American Water. I retire next year after 33 years. I am very thankful for his blessing at that time and am so sorry for those of his loved ones that have to endure his early call home. My prayers are with you.
I am in disbelief that Bruce has passed on. My sincerest condolences to his family. I could fill volumes of the fond memories of our 25 year working relationship at St. Louis County Water and Missouri-American Water. Bruce was professional, knowledgeable, kind, cheerful and displayed a genuine love for his work. Even after parting company in 2004, we would exchange personal greetings at Christmas to stay connected.
My life has been enriched for knowing Bruce and I am eternally grateful.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have had the privilege of working with Bruce over the last 5 years on several water projects. His passion for his craft was always on display and his knowledge of the subject was amazing. One of his best qualities was his willingness to share his knowledge with others. He always took time to mentor younger coworkers and would often go out of his way to do so.
I will miss not being able to call him and ask the questions that I know he had the answer to.
Bruce gave me a chance to start a rewarding career and 32 years later I am still testing water for our St. Louis County customers. I had the privilege of working with Bruce for some 15 years, learning a great deal and the value of hard work along the way, and that we also went to the same high school. Bruce challenged me to do my very best and to be passionate about my work. On a wall in his office was a passage, “Experience is a hard teacher for it gives the test first and the lesson afterwards”. I think I now understand its meaning. A truly gifted person who touched so many lives in the time he was here. I know he would have done even more great things if given the time. I would like to offer my condolences to his family and friends.
My sincerest sympathies for your family’s loss. I worked with Bruce at Jacobs and had the opportunity to get to know him during a system startup and some other projects. He brought an amazing amount of energy and knowledge with him to our teams, and he shared so many good stories of his family, life, and travels. He was a proud husband, father, and pawpaw. I want so much to be there for my brother, Johnny, and his family. Mr. Manning and Mrs. Manning have always welcomed me with open arms and were both like second parents to me.
From my perspective, Mr. Bruce Manning was an incredibly strong willed man. His career with the Maryland Heights Police inspired me to work in my current career path as a law enforcement officer, and I couldn’t be more proud.

Dear Manning Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I only worked with Bruce for a short time, but say that his light shone brightly for all to see. He was always eager to share his experiences and knowledge both technical and life in general. My fondest memories are completely off agenda conversations while waiting for others to join calls (and often if they didn’t we kept talking anyways!). I am praying for comfort and peace in this time of loss and grieving.
Bruce was a water treatment savant. I worked with Bruce for 10 years at CH2M and his unique knowledge and problem solving talents for addressing the most complex water treatment challenges was extraordinary. Never saw anything like it and probably never will again. He was such a hard-working man. I hope he enjoys his well-deserved rest in heaven.
