Justvig, Major Richard Alan Promoted to Glory Wednesday, August 4, 2021
Beloved husband of Major Mary Justvig. Loving dad of Scott (Joan) Justvig and Valerie (Rob) Gates. Dearest grandpa of Sarah Gates.
Dick was a faithful Salvation Army Officer his entire life. First appointment Corps Officer in the Omaha North Corps continued to serve throughout the Midwest with his final Corps appointment at Norridge Citadel before retiring as divisional secretary in the Kansas and western Missouri Division. In retirement Dick served with Major Mary in numerous Salvation Army interim appointments including Russia as well as taking a leadership role in Salvation Army’s HeaRt Program.
Services: Visitation at Kutis South County Chapel 5255 Lemay Ferry Road Sunday, August 8, 4 to 7 pm. Then to Salvation Army Citadel 824 Union Road St. Louis, MO 63123 on Monday, August 9, visitation at 10 am until time of service at 11 am. Interment Glen Oak Cemetery 4301 Roosevelt Road Hillside (Chicago), IL 60162 Tuesday, August 10, meet at cemetery 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Salvation Army 824 Union Road St. Louis, MO 63123, appreciated.

So sorry for your loss, but rejoicing that he is with his Savior and the knowing that I will see him again!

Going to miss my dear friend from many years. Thank you Dick for being there when I needed you. Thank you for calling every 2-3 days. We both have been close over the past 2-3 years each dealing with our medical issues. May God reward you greatly!
So blessed to have Major as my corps officer, mentor and friend. He changed my life forever. I will always be grateful for time spent under his ministry. One of the few “GENUINE” Salvation Army leaders of our time that truly exemplified Jesus in his conduct; ministry and testimony! He will be missed. Mary I just saw this and it made me sad, I loved Uncle Dick and so did Jannine. Hopefully they are having a nice reunion.

Major Justvig was the first Salvation Army officer I met at our Kalamazoo Citadel Corps. Major Justvig was very warm-hearted and fun. Major Justvig knew that my Father passed away when I was just 14, so I’m sure that’s why he chose to enroll me in as a Senior Soldier on Father’s Day, June 20th, 1993. Major Justvig liked to preach on Consecration and intimacy with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was genuine and honest with others. He loved Jesus with all of his heart, soul, mind and strength and his neighbor as himself.
Heaven’s gain is our loss.
Dick was so much like his father, my Uncle Birger, everybody loves him, and rightly so. I can’t even imagine the glorious singing in heaven when Dick arrived home. In the arms of Jesus with not only all the Justvigs surrounding but all those whose life was changed because of Dicks faithfulness to God.
Yes, heavens gain our loss.

One of the best Pastor’s I have met. He was a great example of what it meant to be Christlike. The Army lost a great Officer the Kingdom gained a saint.
