Joseph “Joe” Joyce, Jr.

Mr. Joseph “Joe” Joyce, Jr., 94, of St. Louis MO, entered into rest Wednesday, September 23, 2016 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Mehlville, MO. He was born on October 23, 1921 to Joseph and Lottie Annie (Abele) Joyce in St.  Louis, Missouri.  Joe graduated from Southwest High School in 1936 and attended Hadley Vocational where he earned his electrician’s license and began work as an electrician for Potter Electric.  On February 12, 1942, Joe married the love of his life, Mary L. Roussan. He enlisted in the United States Navy in November 1942 and served his country as Electricians Mate 1st Class until being honorably discharged in 1945.  Joe worked as a Senior Claims Manager for Maryland Casualty where he retired in 1987 after 35 years service.  Joe was President of the St. Louis Claims Manager Council and Chairman of the Nationwide Inter-Company Arbitration Committee.  Joe was also a Licensed Amateur Radio Operator for over 25 years and an avid photographer.

Surviving are his beloved wife of over 74 years of marriage, Mary L. Joyce and his adoring nephews Gary (Mary) Shafer of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and their daughter Laura and Greg (Karen) Shafer of Chesterfield, Missouri and their sons, Chris and Jon Shafer.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, sister, son, Gordon Joyce and daughter-in-law Dene Joyce.

Funeral services Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the Affton Chapel – Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois, St. Louis, MO 63123.  Burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park and Mausoleums, 10180 Gravois, St. Louis, MO  63123.
