Baptized into the Hope of Christ’s Resurrection Tuesday, January 17, 2023.
Beloved husband of the late Susan K. Isenberg (nee Maloney); loving father of Jennifer (Steve) Giltner and Suzanne (Rahul) Chhabra; adoring grandfather of Niam Chhabra; dear brother of the late Richard, Ruth and Darryl Isenberg; dear uncle of Chad (Erica) Isenberg. Our dearest relative and friend to many.
Dad was a 3rd generation German immigrant. He was the oldest of 4 siblings, yet he was the last to pass away. He grew up on a large chicken farm in Illinois. Attended school in a 1 room schoolhouse for many years. He did not want to be a farmer and knew education was his way out and would eventually go on to complete his master’s degree in accounting. He was a financial manager for the USDA for most of his career. He Joined the Rosicrucian order in his early twenties and this became his lifes work. He married our mother Susan, and they lived in Arlington Virginia and then babies Jennifer & Suzanne joined the family. The family moved back to Saint Louis in 1991 to be closer to both sides of the family. His wife of 47 years passed away in 2018 and he was living with the 9# poodle Barky which became his everyday companion. Vern was living with Alzheimer’s with lots of support and it’s a blessing that he has passed on and is no longer suffering.

May Perpetual Light Shine on Vern and may friends and family be comforted with grace
Vern was one of the most intelligent people I ever knew. He was so interesting to just sit and talk with. He was a good man, a gentle giant. He and Susan were devoted to one another. I’ll never forget the New Years Eve we spent together sitting center balcony on the Branson Belle. And, Vern, Susan and I walked through a number of flea markets together. Barkey has lost his good buddy, but Susan has “her Vern” back. God bless them both, and best wishes to Barkey in his new home! My deepest condolences to Suzanne, Rahul, Niam, Jennifer and Steve.
Dear Vern, a life on this wonderful ‘blue dot’ in the vastness of our universe…, what an honour, what an experience! I suspect only a very few know of the realm you have risen to; but from the little I have gleaned from life and its myriad expressions of Light, Life and Love, I know that only good, beauty, wonder and Light now surrounds you! Thank you dear Frater for the Light you shared with many, and the lives that were transformed for the better because of you. In the Bonds of the Ordo Rosae Crucis, I salute you. My deep condolences go to all who knew and loved Vern during his journey through our world.

THE PAST
He flings his past behind him
Like a robe worn threadbare in the seams
and out of date.
He has outgrown it.
Wherefore should we weep
and dwell upon its beauty,
and its dyes of Oriental splendor
or complain that he must needs discard it?
He can weave
upon the shuttles of the future years
a fabric far more durable.
Subdued, it may be,
in the blending of its hues
whose somber shades co-mingle,
yet the gleam of golden warp
shall shoot it through and through
while over a fadeless luster lies.
And starred with gems made out of crystaled tears
His new robe shall be richer than the old.

I have so many happy memories of Vern as a pillar of the Rosicrucian community in St. Louis and throughout Missouri. He showed us how to be a kind, caring, and effective leader. He was a true servant-leader. He was a font of wisdom and knowledge. Vern was highly respected throughout the region as well as nationally. It was a true pleasure to serve with him.
I remember some of my favorite times with Vern were those light dinners at St. Louis Bread Company in Kirkwood, followed by an evening at the Lodge nearby. I had moved out of state, and when I came back to St. Louis a few times each year, we would meet for supper to catch up. He loved telling me the latest news about his family, and he was so proud of his daughters.
Vern helped me along my spiritual path by answering questions I had along the way, and for helping to create, along with our Lodge friends, a welcoming environment for learning spiritual experience. Vern will be greatly missed by me and by many, many people.
My heart goes out to Vern’s family and friends and they will be held in Light and Love. Vern, may you rest in Peace Profound.

As these many hearts reflect on Vern’s life and wonderful contributions to Love on Earth, I wanted to share how Vern and his youngest daughter Suzanne modeled for me how they approach Life.
Vern (with Suzanne’s generous gift of transportation to and from the airport) assisted me in conducting a whirl-wind trip to Chicago for a day to participate in a graduation with the Martinists. It was necessary to be home the same day and it was a lot for one day.
Suzanne was there to pick us up after and then ferried us to our destination for dinner, then back to the airport. In all, it was a lovely day and experience of Vern. And, how he and Susan’s way of living, had carried over into their daughters’ way of living. What a lovely way to “honor thy father and mother” – model their behaviors of Love – kindnesses to strangers.
I have no doubt Vern and Susan are very proud of their family! I am honored to have known Vern and have been at least, more than acquainted with, he and his family!
I am sure Vern rests in Peace Profound and that Light, Life and Love will be with his family to comfort them during this time.
