Emmet Hearst, 89, of Jefferson City died July 6, 2016, at his home. Mr. Hearst was a World War II veteran having joined the Merchant Marines in March 1945 at age 17, which was followed by service in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in December 1946.

He worked for the Monsanto Company at the John F. Queeny Plant in St. Louis and retired after nearly 40 years of service as an instrument mechanic. Emmet and his wife enjoyed traveling together, especially to Bible conferences. He was a member of Westview Missionary Baptist Church in Jefferson City.

Born March 23, 1927, in Barnhart, he was the son of the late Everett and Mabel (Fry) Hearst.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years: Donna Rose Barnes of Jefferson City; four children: David (Sharon) Hearst of Hermann, Michael (Rae Lynn) Hearst of Jefferson City, Timothy (Gail) Hearst of Pevely and Dawn (Wayne) King of Sullivan; nine grandchildren: Tracy (Mark) Wegman, Chad (Jamie) Hearst, Racheal Hearst, Derek (Angela) Hearst, Joshua (Jill) Hearst, Jennifer (Jeremy) Holtzer, Jason King, Keith (Mandy) King and Gabriel Hearst; 14 great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Virgie Schierhoff of Potosi, Verneita Ryan of Merrimac, Mass., Velma Dawkins of Herculaneum and one brother: Patrick Hearst of Barnhart.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Everett Hearst and Charles Hearst.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, July 11, at Kutis Funeral Home South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, Pastor Michael Hearst officiating. Burial with military honors will be at the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to Westview Missionary Baptist Church, 1036 LoMo Drive, Jefferson City, MO 65109. Arrangements are under the direction of Kutis Funeral Home.
