William Henry Haines, Sr., a proud Veteran of the United States Army, devout parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, devoted father to six children, loving grandfather to seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and proud member of the Knights of Columbus, passed away on Wednesday, December 01, 2021, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital due to illness.
William was born in Saint Louis, Missouri, on December 20, 1943. The fourth of five sons [brothers–Charles II (2018), John (2013), Leo (1972), and Jerry] of Mary Francis (2012) and Charles William Haines, Sr. (1971), William attended Saint Vincent’s Elementary School and Saint Mary’s High School. William proudly served his country in the Vietnam War from 1965-1967 as a member of the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment (Black Horse Unit), Specialist E5, earning numerous awards for his service, including the Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal, and Sharpshooter Badge. William, a Fourth Degree Knight, was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.
William, known by friends and loved ones, as Bill, returned from service to marry his now former wife, Joyce, and have the six children he desired. Bill worked for McDonnell Douglas, aka Boeing, from 1968 until the time of his retirement in 2008 as a computer programmer and, later, a Senior Industrial Engineer. Bill’s love of building, creating, and repairing things led to many of his hobbies. Bill’s passions included trains, model airplanes, drones, computers, technology, cars, and weaponry (guns and rifles).
William is survived by his six children, William H. Haines, Jr. (Holly), Jennifer M. Pierce (Kevin), Michelle D. Haines (James), Jeffrey E. Haines, Michael D. Haines, and Mary F. Keane (Benjamin); his seven grandchildren, Zachary, Courtney, Anthony, Krystal, Heather, Brittany, and James II; and his three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Everlei, and Antoinette.
Services are to be held at Kutis Funeral Home at 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, Saint Louis, Missouri, on Monday, December 06, 2021. Private family viewing from 3:00pm-4:00pm. Viewing will be open to all from 4:00pm-8:00pm.
A full Mass will be held at Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church at 2653 Ohio Ave, Saint Louis, Missouri, at 10:30am on Tuesday, December 07, 2021, immediately followed by a formal military burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetary at 2900 Sheridan Road, Saint Louis, Missouri. Reception will be held immediately after at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 50 Saint Francois Street, Florissant, Missouri.
It was a pleasure knowing, and working with Bill who I was privelaged to call “Friend”.
He will be missed.
