SERVICES: Memorial service at KUTIS SOUTH COUNTY Chapel 5255 Lemay Ferry Saturday, November 14 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Support Dogs of St. Louis or Gateway Harmonica Club appreciated.

I met Pauline Guelbert six years ago, when I joined the Gateway Harmonica Club. I was grieving the sudden loss of a beloved sister and her daughter and needed to find an interest to direct my energy. Pauline was very welcoming and encouraged me as I was learning to play the instrument. Although Pauline did not play the harmonica, she was the very life of the club, attending all of the gigs, promoting the sale of the club CD’s, and when any patriotic songs were played, she waltzed around the room handing out small American flags. At our meetings on Tuesday nights she set up a table of snacks of every description. When she retired, the table was barren. I loved hearing the story of her life when we rode together with Buddy and Jessie Hirsch. After some years of widowhood she was introduced to a gentleman named Guy, through mutual friends. Guy was a member of the harmonica club, and that is how Pauline became active. Until she retired, she drove every Tuesday evening from her home in South County. The club picnic was held at a park in St. Peters, and Pauline made every event. I treasure the time spent with her. Fortunately, I got to see her at Mattis Pointe before the pandemic. I sent cards and worried whether someone would read them to her. When I called, a representative assured me that they did indeed read them. The harmonica club has lost a beautiful friend. She was dearly loved.
Building on what Margaret already voiced, Pauline was an Ambassador of the Gateway Harmonica Club, especially to all new Club arrivals. She never missed giving a warm and welcoming hello to old and new members as well as to all visitors. While not a harmonica player herself, she supported those who taught, those who wanted to learn how to play, and those who just wanted to listen and appreciate hearing the harmonica being played. The lost of this most generous and kind “Ambassador of the Harmonica” represents a great loss to Gateway’s membership and to the advancement of the harmonica. May these happy memories of Pauline help to lighten all the days ahead without her.

The loss of a parent makes a huge impact on your life. It is something that changes your life forever. But how lucky you are to have had your mother in your life so many years. She was a very classy, loving and independent lady that will bring you memories the rest of your lives. I hope you will find peace and comfort in the family you have remaining together and know that you have many friends and family that are there for you. Much love to you all.
Pauline is an unforgettable person. Loved her very much when I was a teenager.. have a lot of good memories at the Guelbert’s..
