Fitzgerald, Col. Betty Jean USA Ret. (nee Helm), Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church Tuesday, May 10, 2022. Preceded in death by her husband Daniel Leo Fitzgerald of 39 years; daughter Terry Lynn, sons Daniel Leo Jr. and David, and grandson Jason Hook. Betty is survived by her daughter Donna (John) Gowens; daughter-in-law Jessica Fitzgerald; as well as grandchildren Tania Stinson, Stephanie Gowens, Bryan, Mark, Christopher and Daniel Fitzgerald and several great-grandchildren. She leaves many friends including Mary Dust, a dear friend for over 55 years.
Services: Funeral from Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry, Wednesday, May 18, 9:15 a.m. to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (Imperial) for 10 a.m. Mass. Visitation Tuesday, May 17 from 4-8 p.m. Interment J.B. National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Food Pantry or Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.
COL (I could never call her by her first name) Fitzgerald was a beautiful person, helpful to everyone she met. We worked together full-time at 21st General Hospital. I reconnected with her a few years ago,xas I would sent her a yearly Christmas card with my phone number as I lost hers. She was so busy living her retirement, and told me she found one of my cards and decided to stop and call me. We talked for over a hour, going down memory lane. I will forever cherish our time together at the office, during weekend training excercises, annual training, and especially Ozark “Pretenders”. Alumi members will know what I’m talking about. Say hello to Dan for me.
