Alec S. Fister (1994-2022)

Alec Samuel Fister was born on March 22, 1994, in Colorado Springs, Co.; he died on January 12, 2022, at Saint Louis University Hospital. Giving selflessly in death as he did in life, Alec’s final act of kindness was his decision to donate life-saving organs through Mid-America Transplant.

Alec grew up in Barnhart, Mo. When he was only six years old, Alec began developing his passion and perseverance in the sport of football. A natural athlete, with a dedicated spirit of competition, Alec went on to play both offensive and defensive tackle positions for the Jefferson County Youth Association, while attending Freer Elementary School, in Barnhart. He joined the football teams for Windsor Middle School and then Windsor High School in Imperial, Mo., during which time he also trained at Elite Football Academy. As a varsity football player, Alec was honored with team All-Conference, All-District and All-Region distinctions, earned in 2009 and 2010. While he was a senior, Alec was recruited to play for William Jewel College, in Liberty, Mo., where he belonged to the Kappa Alpha fraternity. Later, he played for Missouri Baptist University, in St. Louis, where he also studied accounting. In 2015, Alec was selected as Missouri Baptist’s Offensive Lineman of the Year. His favorite professional football team was the Kansas City Chiefs, and Alec could be counted on for enjoying every game night with his friends and family all season long. Alec had plans in place for the coming months to share his love of the game and sportsmanship by coaching football to other aspiring young athletes and helping them to achieve their dreams, both on and off the field.

Alec loved his family, friends and fraternity brothers beyond measure. He never turned his back on those in need and wholeheartedly nurtured his relationships, whether new or lifelong, through unwavering encouragement and support. His friendships had no generational or geographical boundaries, and he developed lasting bonds, with teammates and coworkers alike, around the country. He worked at Parkway Electrical, before becoming a financial advisor for TD Ameritrade and Citibank to assist individuals of all ages in realizing economic security for themselves and their families.

Despite his imposing stature, Alec had an unmistakably genuine smile and empathetic gentleness that readily put the people he encountered at ease. Alec was often described by those who knew him as “the big guy with a heart of gold.” He exemplified kindness, generosity, tenacity and a drive to succeed, in both his personal and professional lives, and openly shared his knowledge, life experiences and resources to serve others, whenever possible and without hesitation. Alec’s legacy is the volumes of happiness, enthusiasm and compassion that he brought to life, and which will certainly live on in the many lives he has touched along the way.

Alec is survived by his father, Bob Fister, of St. Louis, Mo.; his mother, Samantha (and Michael) Spaeth, (nee Shipley), of Braselton, Ga.; his sister, Bailey Fister (and fiancé Alex Hoese), of St. Louis; his grandparents Mike and Chris Verplancke, of St. Louis; his uncles Eric (and Becky) Fister, Adam (and Stacey) Fister, Mike Jr. (and Marion) Verplancke and Danny (and Caitlin) Verplancke; his girlfriend Meghan Dismang, of Imperial, Mo., as well as his many cousins, friends, classmates, teammates and colleagues.

He is preceded in death by his loving grandmother, Nancy Shipley (nee Groaning), and his aunt Shannon (and uncle Rob) Oldham (nee Shipley).

Visitation will be held, on Tuesday, Jan. 18, from 4-9 p.m. at Kutis Funeral Home, 5525 Lemay Ferry, St. Louis.

Funeral services on Wednesday, Jan. 19, will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Kutis, with a procession to Immaculate Heart of Mary, 4092 Blow St., St. Louis, for 10 a.m. mass, performed by Rev. Aaron Nord. Burial procession will follow to Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery (Chapel), 7030 Gravois, St. Louis.
