10/26/1934 – 11/05/2022

Born in the City of St. Louis, to John Francis and Hazel (Thomas) Mahon, predeceased by beloved older brother John Francis “Mickey” Mahon, and her husband of 41 years, B. Donald Doerre. She is survived by three children, and a devoted son-in-law; Sharon L Doerre and David Myren of Austin TX, Yvonne Doerre of Washington DC, and David John Mahon Doerre of Los Angeles, CA;  four grandchildren, Alexander, Raiya, William Myren, and August Doerre; dear cousin Jane Mallon, her children, and grandchildren; and many dear friends.

She loved her childhood in the Walnut Park neighborhood and was a proud graduate of Beaumont High School. She studied hard, rode three buses each way, and earned a BS in Physical Therapy from Washington University.  She lobbied in Jefferson City to establish a professional license for Physical Therapists in Missouri. She treasured her career as one of the first Physical Therapists at Shriner’s Hospital.

She delighted most of all in her three children and stayed home with them full time for 12 years. She returned to physical therapy part-time until retirement; primarily as a home health provider, where her warmth brightened the lives of patients and their families.

She enthusiastically helped each child take risks and discover their lives in Texas; the East and West Coasts.  With her children in far-flung states, she became an honorary Aunt and Grandma to many families and friends’ children and grandchildren.

Sharon and Don were devoted members of St. Lucas United Church of Christ and valued the friendships they made there. Sharon spent many years as a lay minister for St. Lucas, visiting sick church members at home and the hospital.  In her final years, she was a recipient of wonderful home health and caring ministries; completing the circle of care and compassion in her life. Her family is so thankful for all her caregivers from Friendship Village Skilled Nursing Center, Mercy Hospice, and St. Lucas Caring Ministries.   In her last year, she rarely spoke, but the core of her remained – she smiled and held your hand; the final things she said were “Thank you,” and “I love you.”
