The flag flies at half-mast for John DeBasio in your honor and memory at your favorite golf clubs in Southwest Florida and in St. Louis. John fought a tough battle, but peacefully left us while he slept Monday, February 22, 2021 and returned home to our Father in Heaven. We all loved John and will miss him, but know his pain is gone and he is in a much better place now. We all feel blessed and richer by having shared time with you in this life. May God grant you everlasting life and may you rest in peace until we meet again in God’s Kingdom.

John loved his family and was first and foremost a faithful Husband to Carol DeBasio (nee Tetley), Father to Kim (Mike) Noblot and Kristi DeBasio-Maesaka; Grandfather to Drew (Lindsey) , Tizzi (Dustin), CJ and Claire; Great Grandfather to Beau, Dylan and Brodi; Brother to Marie Andel and Helen Hebel; uncle, cousin and friend to so many.

John was born March 4, 1938 to John DeBasio Sr and Florence DeBasio (née Weinreich)  After graduating from Kirkwood High, class of ‘55 he attended Southeast Missouri State University where he forged life long friendships as a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity.

In 1958 John returned home and joined his father, his Uncle Tony and his cousin Bob in the family furniture business.  This was the beginning of his long and passionate career as an astute merchant and accomplished businessman.

John along with Carol created and raised a beautiful and loving family. Through their strong faith and honest values, they created an excellent example for all of us on how to live life while earning the respect of others. John was a true gentleman, and his conservative core values were anchored by honesty and integrity. Anyone that knew John or dealt with him understood that his word or his handshake were his bond and his commitment. Our gratitude and thanks go out to you for being an example of courage and sacrifice while providing us with the many gifts that created our success in life.

John was fun loving and always enjoyed life in the company of family and friends, a competitive and skilled golfer he spent many hours with friends on courses throughout the world enjoying his passion for the game. In addition, he served as a positive role model for so many of his family, friends, and those who he served in the communities where he lived and worked as a member of the Lemay Optimist, Lemay Bank Board, Lemay Development Corporation, Lemay Child and Family Center, Salvation Army St. Louis Gateway Citadel, St. Lucas UCC and First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs.

It is also worth noting that his love for baseball and the Cardinals was second to none, and you could always engage John in a deep conversation about his favorite team. When John was not at work or with his family, he could assuredly be found on the greens or in the card room at the club enjoying a cold beer and playing a game of gin with his friends.

Please offer up a prayer for John, and in your own way borrow one of your favorite memories of him by offering someone an act of kindness, a nice word, or a gift of your time in his memory that will make this world a better place.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday March 6, 2021 at 11am Kutis Funeral Home, Affton Chapel,10151 Gravois Road, St. Louis, MO 63123
