K. Douglas Cormack, dearest husband and father passed away peacefully on Dec 1, 2020 at age 78.
Beloved husband of 56 years to Kathryn (Patterson): Loving father of Christopher (Karen); Cherished grandfather to his three beloved grandchildren, Daniel, David and Kayla Cormack of St. Louis; Dear brother of Col. David E. Cormack (Lee) of Florida, and Jean Anne Montgomery (James) of Alaska; Loving uncle to David Cormack Jr., Betsey Cormack, Meredith Montgomery and Kelley Montgomery.
Doug was born May 18, 1942 in Lamar, CO, to Chaplain Everett (Lt. Col.) and Alverna Cormack. He was a graduate of William Jewell College, Liberty MO, and completed two graduate degrees at Washington University. Doug had a distinguished career as a public-school music educator and administrator in Brentwood & Affton schools for 36 yrs. He also served many years as Music Director at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Doug was dedicated to education and lifelong learning. He was passionate about music and an advocate for social justice. In his retirement, he enjoyed travel, golfing with friends, and supporting his grandchildren’s many musical, athletic and scholastic endeavors. Later, with much support from friends, he built an operational model railroad layout that gained national distinction. Doug had a caring and fun-loving spirit, was always gracious, supportive, generous and encouraging. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

A private family service will be held on December 5, 2020. Due to COVID restrictions, a musical celebration of Doug’s life will be planned for a later date.
I will truly miss my brother Doug. We had many great adventures while growing up as our father was a chaplain in the US Air Force. We moved every two years and saw many interesting places. Probably most notable was Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. While we were there Doug played the organ for our father’s chapel services. He was just 15 years old at the time. This was just the start of many years of his involvement as a church organist and music director. When Doug left home for college we were not physically close anymore, but made it a point to keep in contact with each other. I certainly enjoyed going to St Louis to see him and his family. With his endless supply of energy he always seemed to be organizing and planning events. Doug will certainly be missed by all as he touched many lives.

I had the pleasure to meet Mr. Cormack a number of times at Karen and Chris’s home. He was always such a nice man. It was obvious where Chris got his fun living personality. My heart hurts for all of you. Love and prayers for peace in your hearts going up now.
Thoughts and prayers are coming your way. How many memories I have of Doug as a colleague in the Brentwood School District. He was a true professional as he worked with all of us to create the best learning environment for all the students and staff. We also found our common interest in model trains!
I worked with Doug in the Affton School District and I will always appreciate his professionalism, his dedication and his wisdom.
He valued education, supported professional growth for all employees and served as an excellent role model for us all. He will definitely be missed!

My condolences to the family. I’ve know Doug for almost 30 years. Up until the last 6-ish years I cut his hair. He was one of my favorite clients. He was always positive and had much wisdom which I took advantage of during the 30 minutes I had with him every 4 weeks. He helped me through many of life’s issues.
He was a fantastic grandfather. He bragged on his grandchildren all the time. I loved that about him. His pride for his family.
The world has lost a kind and gentle soul.

My sincere Condolences to the Cormack Family. I have fond memories of Doug from the role he played in helping me prepare for my doctoral defense in August 2014. He made time, despite everything that was going on at the time to listen and provide feedback that helped me give a successful Defense. I am back in my home country of Malawi, Africa, but his kindness and selflessness will always be remembered. My prayers and thoughts are with you Kathy and family.
