Edna Alverson died peacefully on May 27, 2016 after a long life filled with love, adventure, faith and family. She started her life’s story in 1932, and now that story lives on through a husband of 66 years, 3 children, 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Edna will be remembered for treating everybody like family and treating family like royalty. Whether it was a trip to the zoo with “Mimi” or Christmas morning with a mountain of presents waiting, Edna made everybody feel special. She was at her best with her husband, Vernon, at her side. “Sonny” and “Eddie” adventured through life together. Over the years they lived in Colorado and Missouri as their family grew and vacationed in places like London, Hawaii, Alaska, Panama or anywhere an RV could take a couple and their dog. During that journey, Edna and Vern went from living in a small rented trailer to paying off the family home they built together in St. Louis – one of Edna’s proudest days.

The kitchen was always the best place to be when Edna was home. She had a gift for cooking and especially baking. Edna would joyfully make over 100 dozen cookies during the holidays. Loved ones on the “nice list” eagerly anticipated a visit that would include Edna rustling through her Cookie Closet and emerging with a cellophane-wrapped plate of treats. She enjoyed picking apples, peaches, blackberries and strawberries and then making jelly and pies to share with those lucky enough to be visiting that day.

Never at a loss for words, Edna could master crossword puzzles in minutes and was always reading. But one of her most beloved ways to spend a day was at Busch Stadium. Edna would don her lucky Cardinals hat (which was always heavy with even-more-lucky buttons) and camp out to buy bleacher tickets. She was a Redbird through and through.

Edna was preceded in death by her siblings Virginia, Shirley, Betty and Benjamin. She is survived by her husband, Vernon; 3 children, Debbie, Dale and wife Mary Jo, and Mike and wife Elise; 9 grandchildren, Chrissie and husband Jon, Andy and wife Brittany, Lisa, Stacy and partner Stacy, Katie and husband Brian, Danny, Brandon and wife Mallory, Matt and wife Riley, and Joe and wife Frances; and 13 great grandchildren Alex, Jakob, Nick, Sam, Alexiz, Allyssa, Ben, Olivia, Peyton, Nathan, Landon, Lucy and Asher.
