Robert Dale Whitten, 79, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2017 at Woodland Manor in Arnold, Mo., after a lengthy illness.

Robert was born September 13, 1937 at his parents’ home in Ramsey, Ill.

Robert was employed by Missouri Pacific/ Union Pacific railroad all of his working life until his retirement at the end of 1993. Robert was a member of FBC of Dupo, where he had served as church treasurer and church trustee. He was a 50 year member of Columbia Lodge 474 AF&AM, a member of Ainad Shrine AANOMS, and a Charter member of Ainad Hospital Unit.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Oran and Lottie, nee Sigler, Whitten; an infant brother, James; and his parents-in-law, Louis and Margaret Lant, who loved him like a son.

He is survived by his wife, Theodora “Teddy”, nee Lant, Whitten, whom he married on November 23, 1968; three sons, Robert (Lisa) Whitten, Brett (Karin) Whitten and Michael (Chel’lee) Whitten; six grandchildren, Brandon Hampton, Brooke Whitten, Garrett Whitten, Kami Whitten, Landon Whitten, and Emmi Whitten.

Services: Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Dupo, Ill. Celebration of Life service is at 12 p.m. at the church.

Private burial will be at Olive Hill Cemetery in Coffeen, Illinois.
