Karagiannis, Athanasios “Tommy”

We are sad to announce Athanasios “Tommy” Karagiannis, eldest son of the late Konstandinos & Efthimia Karagiannis, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 1, 2023 with his loving family by his side.  He was born on April 16, 1939 in Sopiki, formerly part of northern Epirus.   Tommy, with his parents and siblings (sisters Vasiliki (Bessie) & the late Maria and brothers Haralambos (Harry), Spiro and the late Eleftherios (Larry), later migrated to Ioannina, Greece in 1947. In 1957, he came to the United States to pursue the American dream with his wife Eleni (Makos) Karagiannis.  Through hard work and dedication, he and his brothers opened Spiro’s Restaurants and The Tenderloin Room.  These restaurants are still serving some of his finest dishes.

Tommy lived life to its fullest alongside his wife and three children Dino, Tammy & Stacy. His pleasures and life lessons were simply focused on love, hard work, and generosity. Aside from his love for cooking, his passion was to work hard and provide for his family. He was St Louis Cardinals’ Baseball #1 fan, enjoyed traveling and was meticulous about his lawn. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Tommy is survived by his wife Eleni, 3 children, 6 grandchildren (Mary, Eleni, Elise, Alex, Mia, Adam), 1 great-grandchild (Wally), sister Bessie, brothers Harry & Spiro, and many relatives & friends.

 Visitation at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, on Forest Park Blvd., on Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. until Funeral Service time at 11:00 a.m. Interment at St. Matthew Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donation to:  Brotherhood of Sopiki.
