Hanson, Reverend Duaine Daniel Francis

Age 85, passed from this world on March 21, 2023 and went with great rejoicing to be with the Lord. Duaine was also known as “Butch” or simply “Pastor” by the many family and friends who were blessed to have had him in their lives. He was born on June 5, 1937 to Daniel and Lillian Hanson. He resided in St. Louis South County. 

Duaine loved his family deeply and will be missed by his wife, 3 children, 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen (Turnbough), his sons, David and Daniel (Carol), his daughter Theresa, and his grandchildren David Jr. (Rachel), Tabitha (John), Jeremiah (Erin), Amanda (Zachary), David (Bethany), Joshua and Jacob. His great-grandchildren are: Ava, Lena, Michael (Lexi), Daniel, Joseph, Izaiah, Miley, Jackson, Lillien, Abriel, Eleanor, Oliver, Camden, Blake, Abbey, and Brody. He is also survived by his sisters Shirley O’Brien and Pat Galaske. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter-in-law, Linda Hanson.

As a celebration of their love and their growing legacy, Reverend Hanson and his wife, Helen, renewed their wedding vows on their 50^th wedding anniversary. The service was officiated by their son David. They were surrounded by their family, their church family, and many friends.

By profession, Reverend Hanson drove a liquid oxygen tanker truck for over 40 years and he retired from PraxAir (formerly Linde/Union Carbide). He participated in several “road-eo’s” for demonstrated excellence in over-the-road driving. He surpassed the milestone of having driven 2 million accident-free miles, an accomplishment of which he was very humble and his family was very proud. To celebrate their retirement, their children sent Butch and Helen on a vacation to Washington DC.

After answering the call to minister, Duaine studied and became an ordained minister. Since 1972, he had read the Bible cover to cover 70 times. He and his wife served multiple congregations from the time of his calling until the Lord called him home, totaling over 50 years. After finishing his workday during the week, he could be found knocking on doors in the community to share the Gospel of Christ. For several years, he recorded a weekly radio broadcast of his sermons. In addition, he restored and updated the church buildings where he served. He was self-taught in construction, electrical, and woodworking. He used his many talents to serve the Lord in every aspect of his life and led hundreds to accept Christ as Savior. His goal in life was to be able to say that he had never met someone with whom he had not shared the Gospel.

Services; The funeral will be held on March 29, 2023 at 10:00 in the morning at Kutis Funeral Home on Lemay Ferry. The visitation will be held on March 28, 2023 from 4 pm-8pm. Interment will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery.
