Vivian Gail Wiemann, nee Warren, 59 of Arnold, MO, born July 26, 1963 at Fort Campbell, KY, passed away at Mercy Hospital early Thursday, February 9th 2023 surrounded by family.

The second of four children, she started life known “Baby Gail” and eventually as just “Gail”. Spending most of her early childhood in North Carolina after stints in Kentucky, California, and Okinawa by way of Uncle Sam, Gail was known as a champion tree climber, master rock skipper, pogo aficionado, and world class fruit thief. She was always game for the best kind of harmless mischief.  Gail and her family finally settled in Collinsville, IL in 1974. The daughter of a career solider, Gail enlisted in the United States Air Force after high school.

After leaving the service, Gail enrolled at Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville and graduated with a degree in education, eventually earning her master’s degree in History. Gail was a beloved teacher with the Desoto School District for over 20 years. She first taught computers, then government. In time, she moved on to teach American History, her first true love. Gail was admired by her students and colleagues alike, chaperoning several class trips to Washington, D.C.

A chance encounter during a bus ride to Hermann, MO changed Gail’s life forever. A charming man took the seat next to her and they became inseparable from that day. Gail and Dan were truly partners in life and their friendship was unmistakable. They built a beautiful home, where Gail loved to sit in her sunroom with the dogs, looking at the magnificent trees surrounding the property. They would have celebrated 24 years of marriage this June.

Gail loved to travel, and she and Dan took countless trips together. They collected lifelong friends at every stop. Gail’s favorite destination was her own little strip of beach on South Padre Island, TX where they purchased a condo and spent as much time as possible.

Gail was adored by her family, friends, colleagues and students for her quick wit, no nonsense attitude, work ethic, compassion and generosity. Gail never showed up empty handed, always with a card or a gift, whatever the occasion. She will be profoundly missed by all.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter “Gene” and Alma “Jane”, nee Graham, Warren and sister-in-law Beth Warren. Surviving are her husband Daniel Wiemann of Arnold, MO; in-laws Ruth Ann (John) Newland and George (Karen) Wiemann; siblings Tracy (Dennis) Hermanson, Gordon Warren, and Glen (Dolores) Warren; sister-in-law Tammy (Mike) Wiemann; brothers-in-law Mike (Pam) Newland, David (Hye Cha) Newland, and Rick (Amy) Newland; nieces and nephews David, Morgan, Sunny, Lacey, Bryley, Seth, and Brianna; great niece and nephews, cousins, immeasurable friends, neighbors, travel buddies, fellow educators and students.
