Mitter, Elizabeth Ann (nee McDonald) Thursday, July 21, 2016.

Beloved wife of the late David  Mitter, loving mother of Martha McGlinn (Randy McGlinn) of Hartland, VT; Kathryn Mitter (Rick Burch) of Columbia, MO; the late Eleanor  Mitter (Rob Hill) of Columbia, MO; Cynthia Harris (Greg Harris) of Rolla, MO; Melinda Borman (the late  Michael Borman) of St. Louis, MO; dear grandmother of Amy McGlinn, Kevin McGlinn, Michael McGlinn, Emily Burch, Eric Burch, Ellen Burch, Charles Hill, Alison Carroll (Matt  Carroll), Bradley Harris, Jackson  Borman, Olivia Borman; dear great-grandmother of Avery and Zachary Carroll; beloved sister of Evelyn  Donnell; and aunt, cousin and friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her older brothers, James H. McDonald, Dr. Joseph McDonald, and Eugene McDonald, M.D.

Elizabeth was born on June 17, 1921, to James T. and Elizabeth  Huntley McDonald on a farm in  Jackson, MO. Upon graduation from Southeast Missouri State University she moved to St. Louis where she taught Home Economics at Mehlville High School. She married David  Mitter in 1947 and they raised a family of five daughters. She was a skilled seamstress and continued to enjoy sewing, knitting and quilting throughout her life.

A long time member of St. Lucas United Church of Christ, Elizabeth served in many capacities, including Sunday school teacher, church council member, and one of the founders of the Women’s Evening Fellowship. She was one of the first teachers at St. Lucas Preschool and taught there for 17 years. In later years, Elizabeth enjoyed traveling, painting, and spending time with her extended family.

Although health problems presented physical challenges and limited her abilities later in life, Elizabeth handled her circumstances with the dignity, perseverance, and faith that defined her life.

Services: Visitation at Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois Road, St. Louis, MO, Friday, July 29, 2016, 5:00 – 8:00 pm. Pre-service visitation at St. Lucas United Church of Christ, 11735 Denny Road, St. Louis, MO, Saturday, July 30, 2016, 10:00 – 11:00 am.  Funeral service at 11:00 am at St.  Lucas UCC. Interment at St. Lucas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,  memorial gifts to St. Lucas UCC, 11735 Denny Road, St. Louis, MO 63126.
