Age 75, Resting in the Arms of the Lord on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. Beloved husband of Kathy Latta (Nee Meyer) for 53 years. Dearest father of Ryan Latta, Heather and Mark Kotcher, Kirk “Kel” and Kelly Latta and Cori Latta. Loving paw paw of Slone, Alyssa, Luke, Ivy, Khloe and Charlotte. Dear brother of Anne “Pat” Toohey, Robert and Dana Meyer, Jeff and Donna Meyer, Curt and Maria Meyer and the late Mary “Cissy” Latta. Our dear uncle, great-uncle, cousin, coworker and friend.

I spent all of my junior high and high school years being fortunate enough to have Kirk as my second dad. He truly was the kindest soul. Some of the best meals I’ve ever had were ones cooked by him- Summer Sandwich will forever be something that reminds me of him! He really will be missed!

To the Latta family, I’m so sorry for your loss. Kirk was always the kindest soul and I feel very fortunate to have met him in my life. Although I haven’t seen him in recent years, I have so many memories of him from my days working at Auntie Anne’s for Kathy. He was always there helping the crew as if he was a second manager. Early mornings, late nights, Black Friday, he’d be there helping… USUALLY with a smile on his face 😉 (not always, I mean could you blame him in that crazy place)…anyways, he’d be there helping so often, that even many times I’d miss him in the store… I always called him our “elf” to Kathy because he’d get things done so often for us and in a jiff like a magic elf. A kind soul, great helper, and amazing guy. His love for Kathy and his kids was always apparent. I know he will be the best guardian angel for the family. Praying for you all. We will all miss you Kirk!
So sorry for your loss, Latta family. Anytime I saw Kirk he always called me “Tara” despite my name being Lindsey and then Cori had to correct him. It always made us laugh. I’m glad he is not suffering anymore, but he will be missed by anyone that knew him. Thoughts and prayers to you all.
Although I never knew Kirk especially well, the times that I did spend with him, he was the absolute sweetest soul. One memory sticks out to me when he cooked dinner for cori, tara and I. We wanted a night in watching movies and he cooked us his famous amazing stir fry with all the fixings. I will always think of him when I eat another stir fry, that is sure to be subpar because his was definitely made with love. My sincerest condolences to the whole Latta family. Sending big comfort and hugs as you grieve this loss!

Many happy and memorable times as we lived across the street for over 15 years. A lot of laughs and tears. Watching our children grow up together. Good times at table rock lake too.

We enjoyed all the fun times we had knowing him and getting together when our kids were at Beasley, So much fun and great times. May God be of comfort to all of you at this difficult time. Kirk will be at peace now and no more suffering in pain. Prayers and love for the family.
So sad to hear of Kirk’s passing. What a man he was and the incredible legacy he leaves behind. I’ll cherish the many memories I have of him for the rest of my life. He made a profound impact on everyone who was fortunate enough to get to know him. I’ll remember the vacation at Destin, the Table Rock Lake trips, and Kel and I sneaking some beer from the downstairs laundry room. 🙂 I know he’s in Heaven looking down with a big smile and proud of his family, knowing he left the world a better place. Praying for Kathy, Ryan, Heather, Kel, Cory, and the rest of the Latta family during this emotionally unimaginable time. Love you guys.

My heart goes out to his entire family. I’ve know them since I was in elementary school and I don’t even have words. I will never forget the long drop drives to the lake in the van, him being patient and teaching my to waterski on table rock, taking me and Kel into coves early in the morning to fish, and swimming in the coldest pool in the neighborhood because of the trees in your backyard. I will be praying for the whole family and I will never forget how kind he was to me growing up. Great guy and will be missed!
When I became engaged to Heather, I had a lot to live up to. As we all know, when a father gives away a bride, it is the moment at the wedding where the bride leaves the hands of her father or parents and joins her groom. Traditional to be sure, but I believe strongly that a father sets the example for how a young boy should treat others (including women) and how a young girl can seek a good man. Kirk was the absolute example of how one is to love their wife and love their children and I will continue to try to live up to his example.
I have more memories than I could ever put down on paper, but for this I will go with humor, because, he would do the same. It is one of the many things we bonded over, dry, sarcastic humor, of which we both have PhD’s.
Again, traditional, but – before I proposed to Heather, I wanted to ask Kirk’s permission. Nervous as heck but dedicated to doing this right, I called him, and asked him if he’d like to go have a drink sometime? To which he said, ehhhhh.. no thanks. And hung up the phone! We laugh hysterically about it now, but what was a young guy to do? The rest of course is history, but perhaps he was testing me that day. It’s a response I’ll always remember and will cherish when the four of us went to dinner, Heather excused herself, and I sprung it on them. The rest is history and I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of this wonderful family ever since.
Kirk, you are a wonderful man, a shining light to what it means to be a family man, and I will continue to try to live up to that for my wife and the Lattas all the rest of my days.
Dear Kathy, I was filled with so many feelings when I heard the news of Kirk’s passing. I remember the beginning of your relationship with Kirk: The Friday night get togethers in the lower level of your parents’ house; CYC dances, walking your little brother in Carondelet Park and talking about Kirk; or up in your room, listening to the whole Gene Pitney album, start to finish! doing your nails the night before your wedding; both of our early married years when we were still getting together and having kids. Despite not being in touch for so long, the era when teenage girls and boys fell in love in the 60’s was a time filled with music, hair styles, and dairy queen visits that will remain a part of us who lived it; never to be repeated. I will fondly remember Kirk and our teenage years. I am sorry for your loss and wish you the Peace of the Season, knowing Kirk is resting with the Lord.

To the Latta family. My heart hurts writing this. I am so sorry for your loss. Kirk was always a sharp man. He always was dressed so nice. Even when we would all stroll in from a late at night, Kirk would be in his chair in the living room upstairs waiting for everyone to come home safe. I remember sharing many stories of how much he loved his career at UPS on summer nights around the pool with the family and friends. UPS was in his DNA. He was so proud to talk about his family. I always admired Kirk for how he raised his family and how he treated Kathy. May Kirk always live in our hearts and look down and always be watching over us. I remember kirk from my childhood as a very kind and gentle soul that loved his family mso very much. We are praying for you all.
Kathy over the years it was you, Kirk, and your children that were the family I could depend on for support and love when my actual family were so far away. You were always there for me and I have always known what a treasure you are.
On our lake trips with the children when we would have the car so packed with stuff. I am sure it would be illegal now. Kirk would always have a smile as we stuffed in one more thing.
He always took care of his family and loved doing exactly that. The love you and he had for each other will live on with those of us fortunate enough to know you. It shows in your children and their families and will continue to shine forth for generations to come.
I am close with Ryan, and had the pleasure to meet Kirk once or twice. Their relationship struck me as something wonderful, a great dad and a great son. Ryan encouraged me to re-engage with my dad after a turbulent adolescence. It’s the best advice I ever listened to. Kirk and Ryan inspired me to develop a more meaningful relationship with my dad, and for that I am forever grateful. Rest in peace sir, your positive impact is wider than you may have ever known.
