Beloved mother of Linda (Paul) Phipps, Alan (Sherrie) Stobie, Carol (Ron) Schrader, Lora (Rick) Zangaro, Curt (Rose) Stobie and Michael (Ginger) Stobie; dear sister of the late Marion (Howard) Mentzer; our dearest grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt and friend to many.
Service: Funeral at KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL, 10151 Gravois, Sat., April 30, 8 a.m. Interment Sunset Cemetery. Visitation Friday, 4-7 p.m.
Rose was an amazing woman, so loving and caring. She was my mentor when I started my new job at Alexander & Alexander in word processing when our supervisor, Judy, was on maternity leave with her baby, Shannon. Rose taught me so well on the job but most importantly on life! Rose always had kind advice. I remember her loving words when I lost my baby to miscarriage and her remarks after subsequent babies were born.
Her love for God and for humanity was always demonstrated in her own life and after Judy returned, the two of them were the most amazing not only in their jobs, but also our “family”, that included all of us for many years!
I miss you Rose but know you are in the arms of Jesus and happy for that!
God rest your soul sweet friend..until I see you again!
Thoughts of a life well lived! Rose Stobie has been my friend for over 45 years. We first met in 1975 when she hired me to work with her in the newly created two-person word processing department. We did all the typing for the company! Rose was very good at her job and a very good teacher!
Soon we became good friends, sharing our life stories. One of my favorite stories was about her son who had gotten in trouble for messing up some concrete work. I asked her how they knew it was him. We shared a laugh as she went on to tell me that he had written his name in the concrete! I never forgot about that, especially when I had a son of my own who I know would have done the same thing!
My favorite work story was when I typed a letter for our company president and made a very embarrassing error. Instead of typing the words “does not”, I had typed “doe snot”! Spell check didn’t catch that one! Rose had a good sense of humor as she brought the error to my attention and, needless to say, I learned a valuable lesson!
Another thing she shared with me was her love of croqueting. She gave me and my husband our first croqueted Christmas stockings (which are still in use) and then taught me how to do it as well. Every time I make one for a new family member (still using the croquet needle she gave me), I fondly remember her patience as she taught me the correct way to hold the needle and control the tightness of the yarn.
Later, when my daughter was born prematurely and my parents were out of town, Rose stepped in as honorary grandma to my very little daughter. I remember her comforting words and prayers as we were not sure if Kate would make it.
I always looked forward to our meetings with the Word Processing girls from A&A. Rose had a beautiful smile and was a good listener, but I loved listening to her stories. I’ve missed those meetings and will always miss Rose’s love! She was a very good friend! I know she had a strong faith and is now at rest with Jesus in heaven!
