Was called to his heavenly home Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021, at the age of 84. Loving husband of Nancy Lueg who preceded him in death and Jacqueline Lueg (nee Kauffman); father of Kit Lueg, Jennifer (Jeff) Wales, and Betsy Lueg; bonus children Lisa (Jason) Massey and Courtney Davis; grandfather of Sarah and Jackson Lueg; and bonus grandchildren Cameron Davis, and Ian and Sam Massey. Bob struck gold twice, first when he met and married Nancy on the campus of Purdue University in 1960, and again in 1997 when he charmed Jacqueline – or “Jack” as he called her – into marrying him with the help of some turtle tchotchkes he gifted her.
A native Chicagoan, Bob grew up watching Cubs games from Wrigley rooftops on Waveland Ave. He attended school and served as an alter boy for many Latin masses at St. Viator Parish on the city’s northwest side. He completed high school at Loyola Academy, a Jesuit College Preparatory. As a teen, Bob worked at Bryn Mawr Country Club in Lincolnwood both as a golf caddy and locker room attendant. For transportation, he rode the bus and used his rollerskates, but he told stories of occasional limousine rides home from club members. He earned a degree in Psychology from Purdue University as an Army ROTC student and was a member of Phi Kappa Tau. Bob worked as a chemical and industrial products sales representative for his entire professional life, first with McKesson – the job that brought him to St. Louis in 1964 and converted him to a Cardinals fan – and most recently with Engineered Lubricants. After college, he completed Army basic training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma; served in the United States Army Reserve with continued training at Fort Leonard Wood; and was discharged as a Captain of the Artillery. As a young father, he enjoyed quail hunting and fishing with Kit and attending Kit and Jennifer’s swim meets. He was an avid NCAA basketball fan who strategically filled out March Madness brackets every year. His favorite teams included the Kansas Jayhawks and Purdue Boilermakers.
The family is forever grateful for the healthcare team who cared for Bob in the last few years, especially for his devoted caregivers Yvonne, Lawanda, Jennifer, Marla, Jazz and Nicole; his compassionate Pathways hospice team of Debbi, Ashley, Kelly, Bertha, Tracy, and Chaplains Kathy and Ed; and Father Rich of Ascension Catholic Church.
Services: Visitation at Kutis Funeral Home, Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois Road, on Friday, Oct. 22, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral from Kutis Affton on Saturday, Oct. 23, 9:30 am to St. Catherine Laboure on Sappington for 10:00 am Mass. Interment at St. Paul’s Churchyard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Stroke Association, St. Catherine Laboure, Ascension Catholic Church Chesterfield, or a charity of your choice.

This has been a difficult time for Bob and you since his stroke. He is resting in a better place now. The obituary above is wonderful. Even though Bob and I worked for Engineered Lubricants together, there were many things I did not know about him. Sorry that Debbie and will not be able to attend the visitation or funeral since we are out of town. You and all of Bob’s family are in our prayers

My time spent with Bob was always fun. We talked about growing up in Chicago and doing things he shouldn’t, working at the country club, packing a lunch and going to the park and reading short stories by Dostoyevsky. We would arm wrestle, play cards, and Connect 4. He had great stories and a sense of humor. He is missed dearly, however, he is at peace.
