LEE ROY ANIELAK, of St. Louis, passed peacefully at the age of 91 on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, MO. He was born on July 12, 1929, the eldest son of Bernard and Myrtle (Perrot) Anielak.  He lived in the St. Louis area most of his life. He served four years in the United States Air Force as a Weather Equipment Operator, reaching the rank of Staff Sargeant. Upon returning to civilian life, he worked at various positions at Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis.  He retired in 1989.

In 1952, he married Carolyn Jarboe of Louisville, KY. From this union came four children, Julia, Susan, Bernard, and Matthew.  Carolyn passed in 1960. He married (Irene) Judy Hrivnak Thuernau in May of 1970. This union gave Lee’s children two new brothers, Dennis and Mark Thuernau. Judy passed in 2019.

Lee was a St. Louis Golden Gloves Semi-Finalist in the novice category for his weight class in August 1946. He was serious about his physical fitness and often allowed his daughters to acccompany him to the gym, where they could have fun on the gymnastic equipment while he lifted weights. He later became an avid runner. He was also an artist, but did not have time to pursue it, except at Christmastime when he painted various Christmas scenes on the picture window of the family home. He loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals and going to the casino to play the poker machines. He and Judy traveled the world together, but his favorite travel destinations were in the U.S.A. He enjoyed playing cards, especially gin rummy.

In addition to his wives Carolyn and Judy, he was preceded in death by his parents, his sons Bernard Anielak, Dennis Thuernau, Mark Thuernau, his daughter Susan Mayfield, and his brothers Robert Anielak and Gary Anielak. Survived by his daughter Julia Anielak, his son Matthew (Diane) Anielak, his daughter-in-law Sheral Thuernau, grandsons Dennis Thuernau and Douglas Thuernau, granddaughter Katherine Anielak, sister-in-law Paula Anielak and many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He will be sorely missed.

Visitation at Kutis Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois, Friday, June 25 from 12 noon until funeral service time at 2 p.m. Interment at Our Redeemer Cemetery.
